Post What was Pippa's Purpose and the other new members..

Hi,

After watching Pippa arrive I began wondering if the creators were trying to make PIPPA like a young Tootie of course with an Australian accent.( Of course she would say Blocks we're in Trouble

Many times I liked Andy and Pippa too, but I liked the show better when it was just the 2nd season cast. Bev. Anne definetely livens up the place...but I really miss Mrs.G.

What does everyone else think about Pippa and the other additonal cast members??

Take care,

Amy

Well, In my opinion, the producers (or whoever is in charge of casting new actors) shouldve left the cast alone. Only the 4 girls and Mrs. G-thats it!. I didnt like Andy at the beginning but like I said in the other post, he grew on me. Although I wouldve preffered no cast additions in the first place. Pippa was just a waste of....well everything! I remember in the first season they had low ratings and cut down the cast because it was only a half hour show to have so many cast members but thats what they ended up doing in the last seasons neway, just adding more people on to the bandwaggon.

Yeah I even remember reading an article where I believe Kim Fields mentioned that she thought it was strange they were adding new cast members even though too big of a cast had been one of the big problems of the first season. I think something was wrong if even people from the cast were thinking that.

Yeah, Pippa was useless. I guess maybe they added Andy to try and get boys to watch and have someone to relate to, but with Pippa, what, did they want the Australians to have someone too? Maybe they wanted someone who was at Eastland so the younger fans could relate more, but I have news for them, that's what the reruns are for.

At least it gave Sherri Austin a chance to shine as an actress. If I were offered a role, I wouldn't care what others say, but I would go for it.

After the regular cast of a sitcom gets older, many sitcoms add a young kid to the cast to keep some youth in the series. A perfect example of this is when cousin Oliver was added to the Brady Bunch. That was most likely why Andy was added to the show. As for Pippa, maybe they did want someone who would keep the ties to Eastand like TVaddict said. Of course, it's said that when shows start adding younger characters like that, it's on its last legs...

But in the first season, we didn't know any of the characters. They were all new to us except for Mrs. G. Later on in the series, they probably justified the addition of new characters by sayin' that the viewers already know the main 5---they're like family. So that way, we would only have to get to know 1 or 2 more at a time.

It's also been said that Pippa was added because Australians were the latest rage in Hollywood, headed by Mel Gibson. And since FOL was never a ratings monster, I'm sure the producers probably created Pippa by hopin' it would boost 'em some. But you'd think for that to work, they'da made Pippa older and gotten a more established actress to play her.

Oh, well. We've got reruns, so if ya don't like her, ya don't have to watch her, lol. I haven't seen much Pippa at all since the first runs (and I'm 24 now), so I'll have to wait till Hallmark airs those years before I can really voice an opinion on her.

Ditto here. However, I couldn't stand her accent...

The producers added each one of these editions in to help the ratings. Each year (season 6, Andy; Season 7, George; Season 8, Beverly Ann; Season 9, Pippa) they added when the ratings started to fall.
