Default Lucy's children

Hi there from Australia,
Having only seen "The Lucy Show" occasionally over the years I'm aware of the format change roughly half way through when Vivian Vance left the series. What I'm curious to know is were Lucy's children ever seen again or referred to in the scripts after she moved to California? Or were they just written out and never mentioned again. I know Lucy kept playing the same character and I recall that Viv actually returned in later seasons for some guest appearances. Just curious
Thanks
Simon

Nope, they just dissapeared. The boy to military school, and maybe the girl to college. The people involved in writing all of the Lucy shows over the years were the best in the business when it came to laughs, but the worst when it came to continuity!

Thanks Splain for that,
I have wondered about that over the years and as I've only seen episodes here and there of the show I wasn't sure. It does seem silly that the children never featured again in the stroylines as what children never see their mother for over 3 years? It really was silly although I remember the boy was in the first episode when Lucy moved to California in "Lucy at Marineland", then he just vanished. Lucy could have been held up as a not very caring mother!!! :-)))
Cheers
Simon

Actually, Jimmy Garrett appeared as Lucy's son Jerry in 2 episodes after the format change. He appeared in "Lucy at Marineland" and "Lucy the Choirmaster", both 4th season episodes, before being totally written out of the show. They were mentioned a few times, and in "Lucy Gets Caught in the Draft" a big mistake regarding the name of Lucy's son is made. She gets a letter from her son whom she calls Jimmy. I read that the producers tried to get it through to her that it was Jimmy Garrett who played Jerry Carmichael, her son on the show. Lucille insisted she was right and the producers were afraid to stand up to "The Boss", so she refers to him as Jimmy in the episode. Vivian Vance also made 3 appearances after the format change as Vivian Bunson (her character got married) in "Viv Visits Lucy", "Lucy and Viv Reminisce", and "Lucy and the Lost Star"...yes, I agree it was a mistake to not feature the kids anymore, or to not even mention them. The show seemed to have new writers every week, so you can't really blame Lucy for it, although they should have known better...

I also think they should have mention the kids.

I agree with that, too! Also, there were a few times she was inexplicably called MissCarmichael!
I distinctly remember one of Carol Burnett's characters calling her that but Mr. Mooney called her 'Miz-is CARRRRR-my-chael' to the end!
