Default Sitcoms - Good Idea/Bad Idea

Hey kids, who wants to have fun?
Well, it's fun for me, I don't get out that much, but perhaps you may enjoy it too...

Pick a show (sitcom/drama, etc.) and name one good thing that happened (either on the show or behind the scenes) followed by one bad thing that happened...

Example:

"Cheers"
Good idea: Spinning off Frasier into his own series.
Bad Idea: Spinning the Tortellis into their own series.

Any takers?

Sanford and Son

Good idea (on the show): Getting rid of such characters as Melvin and Aunt Ethel.
Bad idea (behind the scenes): The two main cast members doing drugs.

The Facts of Life

Good Idea: Adding Jo Polniaczek to the cast.
Bad Idea: Edna Garrett leaving the show.

Three's Company

Good Idea: Adding Don Knotts to the cast as the new landlord, Ralph Furley.
Bad Idea: The dispute between Suzanne Somers and the other cast members behind the scenes.

Mork and Mindy

Good idea: Spinning off the series
Bad idea: Moving the time slot and changing the supporting cast.

Baby Bob

Bad Idea = The whole concept
Good Idea = Not bringing it back next season

Just kidding. I'll play fair:

Little House on the Prairie

Good Idea = writing in the character Albert
Bad Idea = Getting carried away and writing in more kids--James and Cassandra

The Wonder Years:

Good idea: It looked back at the sixties and seventies, a simpler time.

Bad idea: The show ended after just five seasons, and we did not get to see the characters graduate from high school.

Perfect Strangers:

Good idea: The show was one of the best (if not THE BEST!!!) slapstick comedies ever made.

Bad idea: Having Larry and Balki marry Jennifer and Mary Anne, respectively.

Coach:

Good idea: The life of a college football coach. Very realistic.

Bad idea: Giving Christine Armstrong as much air on the show as they did and incorporating her into too many plots.

The Waltons:

Good idea: Just like on The Wonder Years, looking back at a simpler time.

Bad idea: Exit Olivia Walton, enter the Burtons, second-to-last season.

Home Improvement:

Good idea: Two words: TOOL TIME

Bad idea: Two words: WILSON WILSON

The Brady Bunch:

Good idea: All the people work out their problems by the end of each episode (provided there were problems!).

Bad idea: Cousin Oliver saying the word "s*x" in the last episode.

Laverne and Shirley:

Good idea: The slapstick comedy provided by Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams

Bad idea: Do the words "The Playboy Show" ring a bell?

Growing Pains:

Good idea: B. J. Thomas singing the theme song

Bad idea: Replacing B. J. Thomas in the later seasons

Step By Step:

Good idea: Angela Watson playing Karen Foster

Bad idea: Adding Lily

Hogan's Heroes-
Good- Not making Richard Dawson Col. Hogan. I the man, but he was better as Newkirk.

Bad- The Bob Crane Scandal. Okay, it really wasn't HH related, but I couldn't think of anything else.

Thumbs down

The Practice

Good idea: A small law firm consisting of complex characters taking on murder cases with unique storylines and plot twists.

Bad idea: Move show from cushy Sunday night timeslot to miserable Monday. Then, take an axe and cut the show to pieces by firing the majority of key players including the show's main star, Dylan McDermott.

Good idea: Send David E. Kelley for therapy after a swift kick in the butt.

Bad Idea: Treat a class act show with disrespect by not allowing the show and cast to exit with dignity after seven seasons.

Good idea;
Happy Days

Bad idea;

Putting it before a live audience
Turning a 50's themed show into an 80's one!
Letting Anson Williams sing in almost every episode!

I could go on and on.......... but I won't!

I'll do more genres.

Family Feud 76-85
Good- Going to $300 instead of $200 to win the game.

Bad- Going to $400. The game was too rushed.

Match Game 73-82
Good- The celebs they got on there were hilarious!

Bad- The set change in 78, the star wheel in 78, Richard's exit in 78

I'm going to do a show already done.

Match Game (Gene Rayburn
Good Idea: The set change in 78, the star wheel in 78, Richard's exit in 78
Bad Idea: Changing the format because of syndication

Cheers:

Good Idea: The addition of actors to the cast (Fraiser, lilith, Woody, Rebecca)

Bad Idea: Shelley Long leaving the show...

Ally McBeal

Good Idea - Hiring Robert Downey Jr. Finally, they provided the perfect love interest for Ally.

Perfect Example.

-----

7th Heaven

Good Idea: Creating a show about a family who deals with all types of problems and issues

Bad Idea: Letting every single person who show's up on the Camdens doorstep move in with them.
