Default If you are Upset about something, is it more upsetting when someone tries to ........

make you see the bright side? In other words, trying to cheer you up? When someone tries to cheer me up it makes me more upset because it seems like the person is not understanding why I'm frustrated. So I just like a person to understand what made me upset rather than trying to make me smile too fast. Anyone Feel this way?

Well if they're trying to cheer you up, it's nice to know that they at least care. I do know what you mean though. However, I wouldn't be upset. I'd be nice to know that they actuallycare about what's going on.

I HATE when people say "cheer up, it could be worse"
and i get soooo mad when after someone dies people try to make it better by saying that "it was meant to happen like that"

id rather someone let me be upset for a little while before trying to be all optimistic about it.

I don't like when people try to cheer me up either. I appreciate the concern but just let me be mad for a while and get it out. When I see someone get mad instead of trying to cheer them up I will say I understand even if I don't.

Exactly, let's say u lose your job, a person who tries to make you forget about it too fast will just make u more upset. So i like for someone to let the frustration wear off before then talk about the bright side.

My Mom does that all the time, trying to cheer me up which I do appreciate but sometimes I have to explain to her that now is not the time for all that bright side mess.

I dont know. I dont show my emotions to other people, but when it slips I cant stand sympathy. Just let me be. But Id def. want someone to cheer me up, not agree with me.

I don't know if I would say it's more upsetting for someone to try and cheer me up.They're just trying to make me feel better, even if they don't fully understand how I feel.

I agree, it frustrates me also. I especially hate it when people say "I know how you must feel" when they've been in the situation.

When I'm upset or something, I don't tell people, but if they find out how I feel and offer sympathy, I usually feel OK about it. As long as they don't go, "Well, look at the bright side..." or "Oh, you'll feel better as soon as you..." That annoys the crap out of me.

Yes, I have been through some bad stuff where people have said that to me! That's the worst thing that you can say to someone who is suffering. To the person affected it really makes their anguish sound like nothing. So PLEASE PLEASE don't ever say "It could be worse" in trying to help. I t only makes it WORSE! Believe me! I know!

I don't mind. When people try to cheer you up it's a sign that they care. But I get where your coming from. Enough is enough.

One thing that I hate is when people complain about things over and over and over again. It's so annoying. One of my friends has been doing this a lot lately, and sorry, but it's been bugging the crap out of me. I understand when people get upset, but I get irritated when all they do is whine and fuss over it. Especially when you try to help them but they aren't appreciative and instead turn down all of your ideas.

I appreciate it when people try and cheer me up but not when they make it seem like I should start acting all happy like nothing is bothering me. Let me grieve/suffer in peace, I'll be back to normal eventually.

I'm also terrible at cheering other people up. I never know what to say because I don't want it to seem like I feel they should be over the situation already.

It doesn't really bother me much...actually a lot of the time it actually DOES make you feel better. At least for me, anyway...

I hate when anyone tries to cheer me up. I blow them off and turn into bitch-mode.
