The full release will come later today, but here is the scoop:
Get ready for Barr vs. "Big Brother." Setting up one of the most competitive reality battles of the summer, ABC has slotted its much-anticipated Roseanne Barr reality show Wednesdays at 9 p.m. beginning Aug. 6. ABC will air two half-hour episodes back-to-back each week through mid-September, keeping the 9-10 p.m. slot warm for the fall return of "The Bachelor." The network will announce the plan today. ABC's move puts "The Real Roseanne Show," as the skein has been dubbed, in direct competition with the fourth season of CBS' reality hit "Big Brother" and Fox's buzzworthy newcomer "Paradise Hotel." Latter two skeins will have already been on the air for at least a month when "Roseanne" rolls out, potentially making it tougher for the ABC skein to find its aud. On the other hand, Alphabet may figure it has its own 800-lb. gorilla with Barr (who recently decided to begin using her last name again) and that she'll be able to bring her fan base to the timeslot. In addition, Barr's skein plays more like a comedy, while "Brother" and "Paradise" are sudsier. Segs of "Roseanne," from Actual Reality Pictures and Full Moon & High Tide Prods., will include a reunion with former sitcom co-star John Goodman and frequent visits from her on-call rabbi Drew. The season finale of "The Real Roseanne Show" will mark the start of Barr's new ABC Family Channel cooking/variety skein in mid-September. ABC is also using "The Real Roseanne" to boost "The Family," which will air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. starting Aug. 6. "Family" bowed last spring but was pulled after three episodes after the net realized it had tried to launch too many reality shows at once. A two-hour recap of the first three segs of "The Family" will air Wednesday, July 30, from 9-11 p.m. Skein comes from Buena Vista Prods. and Shapiro/Grodner Prods. |

ROSEANNE BARR RETURNS TO ABC AS THE STAR OF A SHOW
THAT COULD NEVER BE SCRIPTED – HER OWN LIFE! “The Real Roseanne Show” Is Set to Premiere Wednesday, August 6 Comedienne Roseanne Barr returns to television as the star of her own reality show, “The Real Roseanne Show,” which premieres WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, with two back-to-back 30-minute episodes (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The series, which is executive-produced by Roseanne and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler, follows Roseanne from start to finish as she creates the concept for a cooking/lifestyle show – entitled “Domestic Goddess” -- and then embarks upon the treacherous journey to bring the show to life, from pitching to television networks, doing publicity, hiring, firing and more. And, as if creating a show weren’t complicated enough, adding even more excitement to the process are the friends and family members she employs. The cast of characters includes her son, Jake, and son-in-law, Jeff, who become her producers; her first ex-husband, Bill, and his current wife, Becky, who works as Roseanne’s personal assistant; Drew, the one writer whom she’s never fired; and best friend/confidante/makeup artist Shannon. As this motley crew move Roseanne’s life, their outrageous interactions create a three-ring circus that P.T. Barnum couldn’t have dreamed up. Her travels take her to New Orleans for a Mardi Gras reunion with “Roseanne” co-star John Goodman, and she also does the talk-show rounds, visiting Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel. She even has a meeting with her “Domestic Goddess” executive producer in her bed, because….well, why not? But amidst the chaos and calamity, viewers will also get to see Roseanne the Mom, as she interacts daily with all of her children, makes sure the kitchen pantry is full, and has a poignant visit with the daughter she gave up for adoption. The 13 half-hour episodes of “The Real Roseanne Show” will air in pairs over seven Wednesdays (9:00-9:30 and 9:30-10:00 p.m., ET), beginning August 6. Upon the completion of the run of “The Real Roseanne,” viewers can watch the actual cooking show, “Domestic Goddess,” as it begins its run on the ABC Family cable channel. Roseanne reigned as the queen of primetime television for nine years with her eponymous series that changed the way American families were defined on television. “Roseanne” debuted on ABC on October 18, 1988, and within a year became the No.-1 show on television. She and the show received numerous awards and honors, including an Emmy, two Golden Globes, two American Comedy Awards, six People’s Choice Awards, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award and a GLAAD Media Award. Roseanne Barr and R.J. Cutler (Emmy Award-winning reality series, “American High,” and Oscarnominated documentary, “The War Room”) are the executive producers of the ABC Television Network’s “The Real Roseanne Show.” The show is produced by Actual Reality Pictures in association with Full Moon & High Tide Productions. Mark Cowen is co-executive producer. |

Cool....I wonder if Roseanne is going to be like Bill Cosby, having her name in the title of every series she's in.

I wish Roseanne's new reality show will be on ABC. I don't have cable, so I probably wont be able to see Roseanne's new show on the ABC Family network.
Maybe ABC will be nice enough to air it. |

ABC Family won't be cooking up any episodes of planned Roseanne Barr starrer "The Domestic Goddess Hour."
"Domestic Goddess" had been set to bow Sept. 20 on the cabler. But news of Barr's impending hysterectomy halted production last week, when the show was scheduled to begin shooting (Daily Variety, Aug. 14). An ABC Family spokesman confirmed that production will not continue. "The show has been shut down permanently and will not air on ABC Family," the spokesperson confirmed. Skein, hatched as a way to bring ABC auds to the fledgling sister cabler, was designed to launch immediately following the Sept. 17 finale of ABC reality series "The Real Roseanne Show." The very basis of "Real Roseanne," in fact, was to document the development of "Domestic Goddess." With the latter skein dead, the ABC show seems almost beside the point. "ABC is taking a hard look at (the) show," an ABC spokesman said. Forecast looks bleak: Besides its now-defunct premise, "Real Roseanne" received a lukewarm reception in its Aug. 6 debut, drawing a so-so 5.5 million viewers and a 2.2 rating/7 share in adults 18-49. ABC Family had ordered 13 hourlong episodes of "Domestic Goddess" in April, then conceived as a food-centric variety show (Daily Variety, April 24). Segs were cut down to half-hours as the concept evolved into an offbeat dinner party-style talker. R.J. Cutler, who co-exec produces both shows with Barr, was unavailable for comment. "Real Roseanne" airs on ABC Wednesdays at 9 p.m. |
