Why does Archie have a ring on both of his middle fingers? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was just wondering if anyone knew why archie wore two rings (one on each middle finger). Was it just a personal statement maybe? I am just curious why he did this.

Carroll O'Connor wore the rings as his own jewelry and just never removed them to play Archie. And I know it bothered at least one TV Guide Reviewer "back then" who said Archie would never have worn rings, and he would have considered a man who DID wear two rings on the middle fingers of each hand to be a bit... as he would say...."*****." It happens sometimes that unmarried characters end up wearing things like wedding rings because they're married in real life and just forget to remove the jewelry. That's where script continuity comes in. If he'd taken off the rings, he'd have to remember to remove them each time. Maybe they got tired of reminding him and they said "Just keep 'em on Carrol and we'll work around it."
