Oh my god. This has been one of the scariest nights of my life.
I was at church and I was just about to leave and one of my friends was running from her car into the church and she said "There's a tornado warning in 10 minutes! They said to take cover now!" so we get in the car and drive and the sky is pitch black and the sirens are going off and my dad refused to pull in to a restaurant or something so we could go inside because he claimed "We'll be home in 5 minutes." I was like shaking the whole time and my mom was a nervous wreck. So we got home and go into the basement for like a half hour and we could hear the sirens and the weather channel was on talking about where tornadoes were and stuff..... So soon my dad came down and he said it was okay outside. The phone rings and my neighbor, who is on vacation said he heard about a funnel cloud that touched down like...2 minutes from my house. Actually, we had just been driving on the exact road that it was on. So my dad gets in the car to go check it out and he comes back and told us to come with. Me and my mom got in the car and I grabbed my camera...all around my neighborhood, everyone was outside. Trees were split in half..we saw one tree on top of a car, but it looked like there was someone driving the car when the tree hit because it was at an angle...but yeah it was awful. People were out with chainsaws and street signs were knocked down...this is only in my neighborhood...like 2 streets away from me. So then we go where the tornado supposedly was...There was so much traffic because everyone wanted to see what happened....Well there's an Ace Hardware right there and theres a bunch of apartment complexes behind it. In the parking lot, there were tons of ambulances and police cars and fire trucks....something happened but we didn't know what. There was an ABC News truck there, so I suppose we'll find out.... But yea it was really scary...and then afterwards it was almost unreal.... Yah sorry to ramble all this, but I had to get it out. And I took a few pictures!!! ![]() This is a house a few streets from me...the tree fell down and the Stop sign was bent...(It's not that great because we were in my dad's truck and I was between him and my mom.) |

Ugh, that is freaky, a tornado!!!!
I can imagine how scary that was. Worse than an earthquake...I've never been in a tornado and I'm glad...the Wizard of Oz itself scares me.

That's scary. I'm fortuante enough never to have been in a tornado. I think I would have freaked out if there ever was one. The city I live in hasn't had a tornado since 1912. At least it was the biggest tornado tragedy ever to strike the city.

Well, as Amy sugguested I will post my story about last night. For those of you who don't know, I live like in the same area as Amy... kinda liek 10 min away.
But, I was at the graduation at my school because my brother is a senior. So everythings going good. They've gotten to the middle of the "P's" when we here this beeping of the intercom. So principal runs up to the microphone and shes like everyone stay calm... graduates and band go to the library everyone else stay put. So they all get out. And then theyre like okay everyone calmly go to the interior halls. Please help the Elderly!!! and hold on to young kids. So most people were in the Locker Room. But they were full so they directed us to the R.O.T.C basement. So we went down there and it was nice. The put us in the shooting range. which is air conditioned and theyre went too many poeple down there so it was nice and cool, compared to the crowded gym. SO we were down there for like 45 minutes and we could hear the wind and sirens. It wasn't really to bad but I think my mom was really nervous because my brother wasn't with us. SO we just kinda anxiously waited. So finally. after a few announcements from the weather service our principal came on. And she said we had gotten an all clear fromthe fire department. So we could come out. But she also said if you wanted to leave, you could. But the students haddent gone could stay and get their name called as they crossed the stage. We however left but my brother stayed. It was soo freaky, and you tell who had been in the Tornado in '96 around here when everything was destroyed in a nearby town... including the high school! SO thats my story... and Amy, what happened was the tornado touched down there, and the roofs were blown off the Apartments by ace! |

I've been down that road a few times myself. Living in the Midwest is exciting after all!
One time, a tornado went right down the middle of the interstate, which is like 1-2 miles from my house. The sirens never went off. Gah, we were lucky that night. And if anyone ever sees a shelf cloud, one that is solid black and sits in a perfect line in the sky, lots of times with blue sky underneath it...run like hell. |
