Default So what's the deal, here?

This started on NBC, right? How many seasons did it run there/when did it stop? When/Where did it start up again? And lastly, WHY did NBC give up this show? Low ratings?

(Did you already get your questions answered over at the "where is Raytown" thread? I skimmed it, and think you had the questions over there too.)

Well just in case:

It was on NBC for two seasons. The first season had only 13 episodes because it began in January 1983. Infact, if you look at the copyright of the first few episodes, it says 1982, but the show didn't actually air until 83. The second season was on from 1983-1984. NBC showed reruns until... I think the summer of 1985. Then it started up again in 1986, and lasted 4 more seasons. During this time it was on "syndication" so any local stations could pick it up and air it at various times of the day.

I would LOVE to know why NBC gave it up. Ratings I guess. ???

I would have liked to see another year. Anymore than that, The Golden Girls couldn't have happened when it did, since Rue and Betty went to that show in 1986. But new episodes should have ran from 1984-1985. I'd be a real happy camper if it happened that way. The episodes were far better during the NBC years.

Cashodeen, "The Golden Girls" got their start in 1985, not 1986. The first episode aired on September 14, 1985, and Rue and Betty were both on it.

I've known about the 1982 copyright thing for a LONG time. I thought the way "Mama's Family" worked was really weird, because they started mid-season during the 1982-83 TV season (it's hard to believe it was 20 years ago now!), then they went on for all of the 1983-84 TV season, and NBC cut them off and they didn't come back for the 1984-85 or 1985-86 season, but it came back in June 1986, over a month after the regular TV season had ended. They then ran until January 1990, and that was the end.

I've always wondered what was up with that..

Oh my goodness, you are so right! I am so embarrassed!

But if you read my post again you'll see I was thinking that in my head. Because I said MF could have done one more season with Betty and Rue (84-85) before they did GG. If I really thought Golden Girls started in 86, I would have said MF could technically do two more seasons. (84-85, 85-86) I watched GG through it's all run. So I was 2 when it began. I knew that! ARRR!

LOL!! Yeah, you're right. Like I said before, I thought it was pretty weird how "Mama's Family" worked.

I was barely a month old when "The Golden Girls" debuted! (check the birthdate in my profile)

Like you, I also watched TGG through its run (when I was old enough to watch it!). I was just finishing up kindergarten when TGG ended in '92 (if you do the math, I am supposed to graduate in 2004 but I graduated last month!). Man, it doesn't seem like it's been 11 years since TGG ended and it most certainly does not seem like it's been almost 13˝ years since Mama's Family ended.

So you got to graduate early? That's awesome! Did you get to skip a full grade?

It sure doesn't seem like it's been that long since both shows have ended. Time really flies!

How did you get to meet Vicky Lawrence? I'm so envious!

About my graduating early - you could say that. Either year wouldn't have mattered since I was born during the summertime. I was in first grade for a little while the 1992-93 year (the same year TGG ended and I finished kindergarten), but then I moved and when I started at my new school, my parents decided to have me moved up to second grade. So I was never really in first grade in the first place!

How did I get to meet Vicki? I went to see her "Two Woman Show" because her show came to my town. I got front-row VIP tickets to go see her, and afterwards I got to go backstage and meet her (Nope, didn't have backstage passes. I got asked if I wanted to go backstage). Check out my online "Two Woman Show" scrapbook @ www.angelfire.com/nd2/mypic8/Vicki_Lawrence.html . It will tell you all about what happened that night.

Thanks! It was a truly unforgettable experience. If Vicki's tour ever stops in your area, you have to be sure to go. Tickets are usually $30 or a bit more a pop (I found out the prices of her show from some other areas), so it was a pretty great deal.

Oh, I never mentioned this...But her show was TOTALLY sold out both nights!! I'm SO happy I got my VIP tickets when I did.

Yeah, I need to look into that. That price isn't bad at all. In fact it's a GREAT price for how great the show is. I'm so glad to hear they are sell outs! Of course, Vicki is ultra popular and totally hilarious, so I would expect that! And you got terrific seats too. Talk about luck! AND, you had pictures taken with her. I might faint if I met her. LOL

Cool

*squeals* OMG, I know!!!

I am STILL in shock. I actually got to see Vicki Lawrence herself with my own two eyes. I breathed the same air she breathed. I talked to her and she talked to me. Our sides touched for the pictures!! She smiled her big, cute smile at me! She shook my hand! (Her hand was SO nice and SO soft) I got to smell her! (She smelled really nice too) I had my picture taken with her FOUR times! And most importantly of all: SHE HAD HER ARM AROUND ME!!!!!!

YOU tell me about fainting. You should have seen me right before I met her. Having to wait in a BIG room for a few minutes before Vicki arrived and thinking about her made me a nervous wreck! I seriously thought I was going to faint. It took my breath away just how beautiful Vicki is up close (the pictures don't do enough justice! Plus, her skin is a little darker). But I somehow pulled through just fine. I didn't embarrass myself or Vicki, so it's nothing but fond memories.

Go for it. You will definitely be getting your money's worth and you get to see Vicki live! I hope you get as lucky as I did. ;-D

Not a problem. I've had similar questions about this show as well.

That last post of mine should say that NBC showed reruns THROUGH the summer of 1985, not until the summer. According to tvtome.com, new episodes stopped in the spring of 1984.
