Default Whats the BEST Recordable Tape & VCR Brand

I have used several different brands. but I always mix up the box's with the tapes & have no clue which brand is which (unless its preprinted in the plastic mold.
Usually I purchase Fuji or Maxell
I try to always record in SP mode for best quality because I learned the hardway that EP mode wears out quickly.

I was wondering since many of you collect ALOT of videos & have probably gone thru quite a few VCRs (I have gone thru 3 myself) & used many different brands of tapes....
What are your best recomendations....

I can say with most certianty that the Emmerson stinks long term. The record quality was decent but the VCR was toast within a year & the replacement died in just under the same time frame.

I had a Magnavox VCR that lasted me 10 years with decent recording quality but they just dont mak 'em like that anymore....

I use a Toshiba right now but I wish the magic VCR fairy would bestow one of those Go Deck things on me. I would love to have one but I dont know how that would happen.

Always use the brand TDK. I still have TDK tapes i recorded episodes on in 1994. Very good brand.

Do you use a high quality brand of TDK? That might make the difference.

Default Ok I'm Sold...

The Go Deck offers....

• Easy Editing
The Go-Video Dual VCR allows you to add voice explanations or funny lines, add on-screen written titles, and/or change the order of up to 8 scenes at a time automatically. Now you can easily edit your own custom home movies.

• Twice the Playback or Recording Time
In Loop mode, your Go-Video Dual Deck will keep playing-from Deck 1 to Deck 2 back to Deck 1-indefinitely. Or choose Sequence to record (or play) from Deck 1 through to Deck 2.

• Commercial Free Copying
If you like to record TV shows, you can record all your favorite shows and make commercial-free copies of them for viewing or archiving. Save about twenty minutes out of every sixty minutes - the average ratio of commercial time to regular TV programming - by using this newest Dual-Deck feature. It's easy. Just place a blank tape in each VCR. Select the automatic Commercial Free copy feature from the menu. Use the Timer Record function to choose and tape your favorite TV shows. Watch the tape that results in Deck 2, ready for you when you get home.

• Timer Record
Lets you set up to 16 timer events up to one year in advance - twice as many as most VCRs.

• Complete Program Record (CPR)
Senses the end of a tape and switches to SLP to make sure your tape doesn't run out when you're recording.

• Auto Setup
Automatically sets the clock and searches for channels when you plug it in.

• Child Lock
Completely disables the front panel controls. (Then you hide the remote.)

• Auto Head Cleaner
On both decks. Keeps copies looking sharp.

• Hi-Fi Playback and Recording
Even copies sound great.

Yeah that deffinatly looks like a sweet investment. I want it too! I need a new VCR, hmmmmm

Cool

I think that RCA is the best brand of tapes. That is what I always use. You can get 10 tapes for $9.99 at Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

Default Go-Deck

What I like the best about the Go-Deck is that when you're making copies, it automatically stops at the end of the tape you're copying, so there's no backtracking. Definitely a good investment when tape trading.

Love your Nez pics!

I have a GO Deck which I got quite awhile back & love it. I don't think mine has the feature where you can eliminate the commercials tho. It's nice cuz I can set it up to tape off the satellite dish & have my regular vcr deck hooked to the regular tv for taping off regualr network tv... With both vcrs I can tape 3 shows at the same time or make tape copies while I watch another video...

I currently have a Sharp VCR, but in the past I've had a Sylvania VCR and a Magnavox VCR. They're all pretty good. In this house we have an older Sharp VCR from '98 or so and the tapes recorded on it play horribly on all the other VCRs so I can never tape anything on it. -shrug-

I usually use Maxell and I've never come across a bad Maxell 6 hour tape, though I have come across one or two bad 8 hour tapes. Lately I've been using a lot of Sony because those are the most readily available.

I have been using the RCA also. They have been well so far as I've only had 1 bad one (maybe 2) in a year or so. My worst brand has been Sony tapes though! At least 1 out of every pack I have got (10 in a pack) has been bad!
