Here are some very STRONG facts supporting that Good Times did not spinoff from Maude.

1.Good Times was created and scripts for the show were written in 1971. That's one year before Maude existed.

2.Good Times scripts were being worked on from 1971-1974 and the setting for Good Times was decided also in 1971.

3.Good Times first aired on Feb 1, 1974 and her last appearance on Maude was on Feb 5, 1974. Which means the show was seen FOUR days before the Maude Episode Florida's Goodbye.

HOLD ON! I just checked the epguides.com page, which is a very accurate and very reliable source for TV shows, and the first episode of Good Times aired on February 8th 1974. The episode Florida's Goodbye aired on February 5th like you said but the first episode of Good Times aired after the episode.

True Hollywood Story said it premeired Feb 1, 1974 and I have that TV Guide currently on the way. And once i receive it, there should be no more discussion about Good Times being a spinoff.

THe TV Guide from 1974 will arrive to me soon and i will get help in posting the TV Guide page stating the air date for Good Times and that will confirm the premeire of Good Times and will defintly be the end of this discussion.

But TV Guide can be wrong. Pavanbadal just told me that they print 2-4 weeks in advance. Can you explain that?

I will also mail you the copy of the TV guide page for feb of 1974 along with the magazine article and then you will say Solomon, you are right. I expect to receive the Tv guide issue for jan 26-feb 1 and feb 2-8 in the next 2 weeks.

Well if that's really true about TV guides, then i guess me and you will never know the real answer about when Good Times started since we both were born after 1974.

Hmm...the book Tota Television says Good Times premired on February 8th. There was a topic about this on either the Maude or Good Times board, not sure which, which explained why there is a discrepency. Or at least I think it did. I'll have to go search for it.

I'm not obessed, it's just that so many people are not paying attention to the facts. So once again, If you want a copy of the article saying Good Times is not a spinoff just let me know.

THe True Hollywood Story on E! said it started Feb 1, 1974. So once I get the Tv guide in the mail stating that fact, I will tell the moderators to close All the threads on this discussion because it will be nothing else to discuss once the TV guide arrives.

I don't know the "facts" of all this Maude/Good Times stuff but I do know that writing a story or a sitcom can go through a lot of flux. Even if it's true that Good Times scripts were being written long before Maude ended that doesn't mean that the writers or producers weren't considering having the show be a Maude spinoff. Or, even if they weren't considering it, by the time it came around to casting and producing they decided to sell it that way. And that point about the date of the TV Guide is important in this odd discussion. Most magazines have dates on their covers that fall a week or more after the magazine hit the newstand.

The reason why very few links to Maude were made on the Goodtimes show might have been that they only wanted to make that connection to get the show off the ground. After that maybe the writers thought those connections were either unecessary or got in the way of the directions they wanted the take the scripts.

Like I said, I don't claim any expertise about Maude and Goodtimes but I don't think Solomon has made his 'moderators will slam the door' case all that well just yet.

I have various copies of the 1975 Ebony Magazine Article that has a statement by producer Alan Manings, "It wasn't really a spinoff because we have changed the Florida Evans character" Let me know if you would like a copy.

Air date means nothing. It's when the show was taped is what counts. And for all we know, that episode could have been filmed after Florida's last appearance. SOLOMON, you're losing. There's no point to go on because you can't win. So I'm going to end this with a childish "Nah nah nah nah nah nah" and a *raspberry*.
