My daughter danced pointe for a few years. She danced Ballet for a number of years before dancing pointe. It is difficult because it requires training muscles and ligaments to work in a way that is, abnormal, you might say. If you're currently dancing talk to your dance teacher or someone who could advise you about it. It would be well worth looking into, and then a great experience, if you decide to go for it.

Wooo let's not get Karly started on her Pointe experience...
I took it for a few months- I've danced for many years, so I believed I had the Ballet training for it. Well...I did. But it was so hard on my feet, even though I had strong ankles, that I decided not to finish the year. It was a few years ago though, so I think that in one or two years I might try it again, because my ankles have probably developed more since then. Warning- your toes will bleed... just like Save the Last Dance. And, depending on how you treat your shoes, you'll go through a lot of pairs. I've always used Bloch ballet shoes, they've always lasted the longest for me. |
