Default Florida's Honesty really really annoyed me

Florida just never wanted to experience the feeling of having money. Prime example, she had a chance to do a TV commercial for $5000 and refused to do it because she felt the script was not honest. Let's face it, she was addicted to being poor.

Sorry, I disagree but I didn't like this episode either! If you'll remember, she was willing to swallow her initial misgivings over it until Michael got' plastered 'on the 'medicine' (every bit as convincing as Jan Brady's sneezes in that 'Ka-Choo' episode)!
I thought that was the lamest depiction of someone getting drunk. How many kids even know 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon on the Old Oak Tree?' when sober?! If they'd had him slur his words, stumble around and/or make gagging noises offcamera, that would have worked but I guess they were going for the dumbest gag! Were we supposed to ID with Florida's maternal protectiveness and cheer her as she dissed the medicine folks' idea OR just laugh at the dumb drunk bit? I wasn't (and still aren't) sure!

Even before Michael drunk some of the product, Florida was still hesitant to do the commercial. They all had to explain to her that doing commercials is only acting.

PracTz, you obviously were just a baby then or weren't born at all. 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon' was on the radio practically everyday in the 70's. Tony Orlando and Dawn ruled the airwaves. I was eight years old then. I knew the whole song.

If Florida did not want to do the commercial because of a moral standard, I can understand that. How can she get on TV and promote something that she does not believe in? That is dishonest. How could she advertise that? I have had auditions for commercials promoting whiskey but turned down the auditions because I don't drink and don't promote it. Not even for money. My integrity was on the line there, so I understood why Florida did what she did.

The moral standards of characters seem to be lost on Sitty. He thinks Florida is ridiculous for not wanting to do the commercial and calls Edith a dingbat for returning the lottery ticket to Mrs. Jefferson. Believe it or not, Solomon, there are things more important than money for some people.

There's no such thing as being "addicted to poor" as you claimed. So you're wrong as usual.

Well James said he had to drop ot in the sixth grade. It showed on his job interview. Read my post about his job interviewing skills. He was in no way abusive. He never did anything to MIchael or Thelma. He just had to get in J.J's face every once in a while because of his sillyness.
