Lamont was about to marry a girl the viewers never saw. This woman was not seen in no previous episodes.

There wasn't much character development for Janet, but she was seen by viewers before the "marriage" episode.
In fact the first time she was seen (near the end of the fifth season), the whole premise was that Lamont was falling for her quickly - thus there was no need for extensive buildup. However by the end of the 5th season, Lamont had fallen in love (Lamont in Love), gotten engaged (The Engagement Man Always Rings Twice) and there was development of Janet's son Roger (Sergeant Gork). Additionally, the last episode that season (Camping Trip) was done solely because Lamont would be getting married, and he wanted to bond with his father. Janet was also a character in 6th season episodes, Fred's Extra Job and Here Today, Gone Today before the impending wedding. So as you can see, Janet fairly ingrained in the Sanford storyline before the "wedding." |

It was only the third episode of the first season. Maybe the writers couldn't find a way to write her into the first two episodes.

Which is why I'm confused. Why would the writers just all of a sudden say "Lamont is Getting Married? And it was only the 3rd episode. He was single in episode 2 and getting married in episode 3.LOL Very strange. |

Crystal is irrelevant.
The whole point of the story was to establish that Lamont can't get away from his father (which was the central storyline of many first season episodes). Lamont struggles that entire season with the fact that he is rapidly becoming a "common junkman" like his father and tries to do everything he can to get away from that (move out, get another job, get married). Hey, its a sitcom, quit overanalyzing it. |

I wasn't really analyzing, that episode was just not very good and unclear to me. I guess I always seen a wedding as somehing that u lead up to rather than have one in the 3rd episode of the series. We have had discussions about sanford and Son not having a finale and I think Lamont getting married would have been a great idea. |

The fact that it came in the third episode was actually good timing as the character development of Fred and Lamont was not yet established. IMO, that was one of the funniest episodes of the first season, where Fred gets off some great lines: "You know darn well you had that (the toaster) left over from the riots" "Hazel, if I hit you I bet your lips get to the hospital before the ambulance." "Aunt Hazel??......You mean Witch Hazel." And after the scene in the church he turns to Reverend Trumbull and says "That was a beautiful sermon" (which incidentially is cut out of TV Land). |

I UNDERSTAND BOTH POINTS.
1. CRYSTALS CHARACTER IS NEVER DEVELOPED. 2. THE EPISODE ITSELF IS FUNNY. THE PARTY WAS FUNNY THOUGH AND SOLOMON YOU WOULD HAVE TO ADMIT THAT. YOU FOLLOW THE SITCOM LIKE A SOAP BUT, ITS NOT MEANT TO BE THAT CORRECT. TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS. REV. TRIMBLE WAS MENTIONED BEFORE SO HE DIDN'T JUST POP UP. |

Ok, now I'm confused! Did Lamont ever get married? I like Sanford and Son, but I haven't seen all that many episodes. I seen Fred almost get married, but nothing on Lamont.

No lamont never got married. He was just engaged to Janet in the last season. The wedding i was referring to was the 3rd episode of this series when the Girl told lamont at the altar that she didn't want to marry him. Up until that point she was never seen and there was never any mention of Lamont being engaged. So that's why i was saying the episode was confusing. |
