Default change in characters

The First season DVD got me thinking, the characters sort of evolved from what they were in the beggining...well some didn't but most did.

For example as the years went by sam became less and less of a ladies man, and i don't mean he lost his looks (because he was always handsome) but you began to see him less and less with his regular slew of women. This became predominant during the Rebecca years, honestly i rarely saw sam with women. Like ofcourse he still dated and still was Sammy, but less and less episodes were being focused on him and you didn't see many of them like in the first five years that were focused on his womanizing.

Another Example is Diane, I'm not sure if anybody has noticed this but i think they protrayed her character to be a lot younger in the first season than in the other seasons. She also fit in more in Cheers in the first season.

Rebecca's character went from being this like hard core, business woman to burning down the bar, carrying around a cigar box, and falling apart. Which ofcourse was funny!

Cliff: Ciff's character went from kind of being Norman's friend to having episodes focused on him, and as the years went by he became stranger and stranger

All the other characters, given their situations stayed relatively the same. Fraiser, Norm, Coach, Woody, and lilith didn't really Change dramatically.

Of course, Frasier became more of a snob again when "Frasier" started.

Rebecca went from being a no-nonsense business woman to a selfish, goofy, gold-digging, dim-witted wreck.

well i'd have to disagree with you, i don't think that Fraiser was really snobby to begin with. I mean when he was introduced into the bar, all he wanted to do was to "fit in" with the barflys. He also went to great lengths to do it , a good example is the episode "The heart is a lonely Snipehunter". He did have success and wasn't the regular barfly, but from what i saw he desperatly tried to be a part of cheers since the beggining. though i'd have to agree that Fraisers character changed once the series "Fraiser" was born.

Actually, Frasier's character was pretty much the same in the first season of Frasier as he was in season 11 of Cheers. If you'll notice, Frasier slowly "devolved" back to where he was in season 3 of Cheers (and then some) over the course of the show. The way I see it is, spending nine years with the Cheers gang would have made him more of a regular guy, and then spending 10 years under the influence of Niles would have gradually turned him back (except when he reunites with Sam, Woody, etc., and then he's suddenly become the Frasier from the latter day Cheers again)

norm was slightly different in the first (some of the 2nd) season, then he was really the same after.

in sams Women, he went nuts about the girl that walked in, getting all nervous and stuff. in The Boys in the Bar, he was a homophobe. in a season 2 ep(forget which one), he fights a guy he knew in high school for Vera.

ive always thought this is stuff season 11 Norm would never do lol

well actually if you remember in "It's a Wonderful Wife" he grabs John Allen Hill by the back of his coat and pretty much yells in his face. And that was in season 9..

Frasier started out as this tightly wound shrink who slowly developed into "just one of the guys."

I think Carla and Norm stayed the same throughout the shows run.

Yea, but Norman was usually a calm indifferent barfly. But when provoked Norman did react in odd sometimes explosive ways. Like the episode where he goes to Jail because of tampering with the mail because he was finishing cliff's route. I love the scene were he comes back and starts chasing Cliff around the bar. Or like in Friends, Romans, and Accountants where he grabbed the boss. But Norman was also an original character because, he would also cry and be sentimental as well as at the same time just be like "whatever". I also liked him because since he just kind of sat there and observed what was going on, he could most of the time predict what was going to happen.
