I realized that Bewitched had three characters in the series who were played by 2 different actors over the years.
Darren, Gladys Kravitz, and Louise Tate. Any other characters on shows you can think of that were played by more than one actor? I'm not sure if Jan Brady qualifies since there were so many different Brady shows. Also, the soon-to-be shown Green Acres had 2 Mrs. Ziffels. I loved the first one who was the blonde Barbara Pepper. I think I usually like the actor who plays the character first. |

"Bewitched"-- original husband was replaced due to his back problems.
"Fresh Prince of Bel Air"--- "Vivian Banks," the mom, was replaced towards the end of the sitcom. "Family Matters"--- the mother was replaced as well. |

Some boomer and earlier toon examples
FLINSTONES 2 Betties-Bea Benadaret and Gerry Johnson (plus too many to count in later incartnations) GUMBY - Ruth Eggleston, Dallas McKennon, Dick Beals and Norma MacMillan as Gumby, Art Clokey and Dallas McKennon as Pokey.,Prickle had several voices, Clokey being one of them. BUGS BUNNY-Mel Blanc DID d Bugs many times but here's some exceptions-- Very embryonic="Country BoY",1934 "My green Fedora",1935,both unknown Embryonic "Porky's Building" (1936)-Bernice Hansen Mel Blanc was main voice from 1938's "Porky's Hare Hunt" onward but even there, you;d hear many exceptions.Ben Hardaway who directed this one did a brief lien for Bugs:"Of course ya know this means WAR"(groucho's catchphrase). Later Daws Butler who do a few impressions as Bugs Bunny as Groucho and Art Carney as Ed Norton on Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners in 1956's WIDEO WABBIT.Jerry Hausner (Jim Backus's animated teenaged nephew in Magoo, Waldo magoo) did Bugs for one VERY brief TV BUGS BUNNY show appearance while Mel Blanc recuperated from his horrifying 1961 auto accident. Also, Dave Barry (not the humorist but the late Vegas imporessionist and trick vocier) did gurgling sounds (he did this for everyone) liker a character talking underwater. He didn't do this for Disney's PINNOCHIO talking underwater (despite Blanc being in that 1940 Disney film as the cat Gideon hiccuping and the fact that many actors from this Disnery film and earlier in the thirties did WB and MGM cartoon voices). Porky Pig was Joe Dougherty (who ACTUALLY STAMMERED) and Mel Blanc since 1935.Three Bears-Bea Benadaret as Ma and Mel Blanc as Junyer and Pa first one with had Mel as Bugs Bunny, then Billy Bletcher (Disney's Big Bad Wolf and Pegleg Pete) as Pa and Stan Freberg as Junyer with Bea Benadaret staying on as Ma. MiICKEY MOUSe-Walt Disney himself then Jimmy McDonald (later in the modern era Wayne Allwine but that's of a later era than the one I refer to.) Live action TV examples.. Partridge Family's two Chrises-Jeremy Gwelbaks and Biran Forster Betweitched-Dicks York and Sargent as Darren |

Although it's not a sitcom, there were two "Miss Ellie's" on Dallas. The first and third were Barbara Bel Gedes (sp), and when she took time off for health reasons, Donna Reed took her spot.
The rumor is that Bel Gedes was so upset with Donna Reed's performance that she said she had to come back. |
