Default The most unusal thing about Family Matters was.....

never seeing Steve Urkel's parents-LOL. I can't believe he was a MAJOR character and we never seen his mom or dad during the entire 9 year run. Weird, very weird if u ask me.

although they were never shown, the show has described different features of steve's parents. for instance, in one episode, it was said that his father was a small man, and in another episode a picture of steve's mother was show, although most of her face was blocked by steve's big head.

It must have slipped past me because I never remember hearing anything about Steve's pArents description. I only remember hearing when Steve parents wanted to send him to Moscow.

It's seems as if Steve's parents didn't really like him.

No, they didn't.

And BTW - their names are Herb and Diane, according to Steve in episode "Man's Best Friend". Later on in the series, in the episode "Hot Wheels", Steve's mom calls to the Winslow Household, and Steve picks up the phone and says 'What's up, Roberta?', so I really don't know what's the deal.

I wouldn't say this is "the most unusual thing about Family Matters." LOL. But yes, it was really weird. I always noticed that and wondered why they didn't show them. Wasn't Steve's dad a brain surgeon? I don't know if they ever said anything about his mom's job.

Yeah it just looked like he lived alone-LOL. When Laura visited Steve at his house, you never heard or saw his parents. And what's even more weird is seeing Cousin Myrtle but not his parents. I know Jaleel White played Cousin Myrtle but I just feel if you introduced one relative of Steve Urkel, why not introduce the main relatives, his parents-LOL

Yes! That's right! I thought someone went to his house before. I thought that time more than any other made it seem so odd they couldn't throw some geeky Urkel parents in the episode. I forgot to add in my last post that never seeing his parents was not only weird, but down right fakey. I know other things in the show were more fake. But this is one thing that the show should have added.

I don't know, I always thought it was MEANT to be unusual--like never seeing Steve's parents was a running gag that the producers and writers were always aware of. Kind of like that neighbor in Home Improvement (forgive me, I forgot his name--was it Wilson?) whose face is hidden by that fence every time we "see" him. So, that's my take on it.

Not that this has much to do with it, but we never see Iola's mother on Mama's Family when she is mentioned often.

what i found unusal was the fact that they never mentioned the middle sister Judy. thye never mentioned what happened to her or nothing. they just went on with the show as if they never had a middle sister or a middle child.

Seriously regarding Judy. It's as if she just disappeared, and as if we imagined her ever being on the show.
