Question Are THE SIMPSONS Showing Signs of Wear?

Now ... I love THE SIMPSONS. Some of the things I look forward to most every weekday are the three airings on UPN . And I'm looking forward with "much" anticipation to their Father's Day marathon!

But lately, actually for a few years now, THE SIMPSONS have been slipping. Don't get me wrong -- I still love the show. And a very funny new episode does air every now & then. But, there aren't any more "consistantly" funny episodes. And none of the storylines seem nearly as consistant as in the past. Take the one where Ned dates a movie star. Now, I know the animators try their best & I commend them for it; but the fact is, this is a terrible episode! Same with the season finale: aside from a couple of funny jokes, it just wasn't good.

What do y'all think?

I agree. The Simpsons has gotten pretty tired the past few seasons. A lot of the episodes have a very disjointed quality to them; meaning the episode starts out with one idea, but that's just a setup for the gimmick of the show, usually punctuated when Homer shouts "The Simpsons are going to..."
Plus, when the characters themselves comment on how they've done something like this before, you know they're running out of ideas.

I don't like how they've turned every character into Homer clones, take Mr. Burns, in the past few seasons he's turned into an idiot when he used to be smart.

Angry i agree

i do agree with u on this one. i love the simpsons alot but i hate the ones they have now. they show more of the recent one now and they are very stupid. i wish they had more of the old one and i am see more of marge hatting homer for ruining her life. but i wish they get more better. i have seen it going down hill four years now and i wish they would get better. i love them and i will always love them.

The Simpson creators need to do what most historically great shows have done -- freshen things up with some type of spin-off. For instance, "Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel" or "The Young Homer Simpson."

i would love to see more of ned flanders parents as they are today.

i would love another episode with homers mother maybe make it a yearly event.

i would love to see church lady vs. rev.lovejoy episode with dana carvey gueststaring.(ned flanders with be funny in this episode)

paul mccartney and his new wife heather would be a
cool episode!

maybe a dream episode featuring the jetsons and the simpsons as neighbors.

maybe an episode gueststaring roger rabbit.

maybe an wizard of oz satire with lisa playing the
dorothy role.

maybe a willy wonka and the chocolate factory satire with bart playing the charlie role.(this one could be an alltime classic with oompa-loompa crew and gene wilder guest staring)

just some ideas to keep the show fresh.

Those are some great story ideas APPLEI.

I always thought it would be cool to do another "future" episode showing Bart and Lisa in High School. I think they could have fun with the whole WB teen drama genre.

It's been going down the drain the last couple of seasons. Instead of finding every episode great, there's only like two or three that are truely great each season. FOX should just cancel it, but that will probably never happen. He's going to milk Matt and his animators for all they're worth. It's such a shame that they keep The Simpsons on the air while great shows like Futurama and Family Guy got the ax so quickly.

Thumbs down

I also agree that the Simpsons are not what they used to be...most of the storylines are far fetched and just off the wall. I think they should show the kids grow up that would make it interesting

I still am addicted to the older reruns (Well, except for all of season one and most of two; which is true for every fan, I think ), and do love a few of the newer episodes. But, the show has gotten so bad now that I rarely catch it on Sundays anymore. It's now the re-runs and marathons on UPN for me. I will miss the program when it leaves, but at least it'll leave for good reason.
I can only hope that it doesn't overstay its welcome and become "totally" sour like DREW CAREY or JUST SHOOT ME. But with THE SIMPSONS going downhill faster & faster, it is my one of my foremost fears.

It seems they always go somewhere. About 3 or 4 times a season. It just gets annoying.
