I was just reading an article about this at the sitcoms online homepage and it really got me upset
Besides Frasier, Friends and Everybody loves Raymond (which are all ending next year) there aren't really any big hits and this new fall schedule dosne't really look like it has any winners either. so you think sitcoms will dissapear soon or maybe in a few years things will get better? |

Well it seems as though everything now is a family sitcom again.IMO There would be more hits if there were less of that genre.

It's those damn reality shows that have hit the airwaves recently. The only show that's still going strong and will continue on to many seasons I think is Reba. It's already completed two seasons, and the episodes just get better as time goes bye. Even though it's a WB show, I could see it becoming a long-running hit.

I hope sitcoms don't go "extinct," so to speak. I agree with Chris, though: Reality TV has definitely screwed up the airwaves.

Sitcoms are actually cheaper to produce because there only 22 minutes long.budget reasons there cheaper. There are shorter shooting schedules.Just to give you an example Three's company when don Knotts came on they went to a 4 day shooting schedule because they were that skilled to be that organized in getting a show blocked and shot. They did two shows were night. The normal is Five. The Carol burnett Show was a five day week.2 in a half in the rehearsal halls and 2in a half in the studios. The reason that was because price is right occupied stage 33 most of the time during the day.Filmed shows are more expensive because they have longer shooting schedule it's more expensive to shoot in a studio then it is on location because the studio spaces are not owned by a specific show but by the studios themselves their rented out for a percentage of their budgeting if Iam correct that is the way it goes.the only reason its tougher on location shoots compared to studios is that if it rains one day they have to wait a day so they can shoot the rest of that scene or show to match the other days of shooting. So I don't think you will see the demise of sitcoms the death of variety now that hurts-I miss dean martin and Carol Burnett

Well the only sitcom I watched this season and last was "Andy Richter Controls the Universe." It was just cancelled. So if they're going to throw that show away and bring in newer shows, I could care less about new sitcoms. In my opinion, no new sitcom could be better than ARCTU. I'm done with Current shows. I'll stick with TV Land and my tapes of my favorite shows.

I wouldn't really mind if sitcoms went extinct. I'd be a little worried, because I like some current sitcoms, but the sitcoms I really really love are already extinct, and I can just watch the reruns...
