Default Olivia's Mom

I thought Olivia's mom was very nice. I felt bad for her because she couldn't see Olivia very often. What do you think of her?

Default Olivia's mom

She didn't see her too often because she "didn't think of herself" while going to college and marrying martin, she did it all for her parents. And finally it was too much for her see split and is going back to school, i believe majoring in sociology, and has a psychiatrist. Basically she got burnt out. But she was very nice.

Oh yes, very nice and sweet and delightful. Let's all do a happy dance! I don't care how wonderful this lady was with words when she threw her story out on the table for Denise. And let me tell you, even I felt sorry for the chump after she told it. Then, after watching it a couple times, I played my violin for the poor fool, then thought, what a loser she is. Wah, wah. Parents were too rough. "When you gonna get married?" "When you gonna start a family?" Okay, I see the pressure horrible parents can put on their kids, but this Olivia Mom, should have had enough brains to say, screw the parents. Better to screw the parents than screw your kid later on--when you bail out on them! What a splendid impression of Mother Dearest Olivia will always have. And then, she ends up living with the Cliff and Clair when Denise traipses off to who knows where with Military Martin. That poor girl gets stuck with people she's not even related too. If Olivia ever developed an inferiority complex later on, I would not be surprise.

So, all right, Olivia Mom blew it, she takes full responsibilty for it. At least she does really sound sincere! Then why the heckl can't she take care of her child at least some of the time?! Olivia never visited her! When you have a child, you have no time to bounce around like you're a scatterbrained school girl. Even though she was trying to get her life in order again, she needed to face the fact that she had a child. Selfish fool. That shrink must not be working.

Yep you could be right. My mom divorced my real dad and my mom ended up having costody of my brother, sister, and me, so I understand what that means.

Yes, I know Martin had custody of Olivia, but if Olivia had a decent mom, the least she could do is visit Olivia more. I'm not even stressing joint custody, although that's what a decent mother would opt for. Olivia's mom doesn't even come off as a total deadbeat, so I don't see why she wouldn't want to see her daughter more. She seemed genuinely happy to see her on that Thanksgiving, yet she doesn't act like she loves her enough to get in contact with her more regularly.

Default true.......

That's true, she could have visited much more if she was as concerned. I'm pretty sure some phonecalls did come through sometimes but not enough i think.
Also i'm pretty sure that olivia's mom could have seen olivia any time she wanted, i don't think martin would deprive her of that in any way because of a divorce. So i don't think custody would be a problem here. She did say that martin let her go and has been great to her in the whole divorce situation.
But maybe she had more problems than she let on, if she's taking therapy then maybe she 's really trying help a problem that she has.Though that's no excuse for leaving her daughter and not contacting her as much as she should have.
But maybe she could recover better if she concentrated on that and then after be a better mom for olivia. She still though should have been more in olivia's life though.

Olivia's Mum was also realy beautiful! I loved the episode where its Thanksgiving, and Denise is holding Olivia's Mum,and her husbands' hand at the dinner table when they were saying a prayer.

She was on another episode from the show. The episode when Theo and Justine are found out about living together. The very first scene in the show is when Olivia, Denise and Paula are in the Village at the Cafe de Balzac and Theo walks into the scene. However, when the ep when into syndication, her Cafe segment was cut and that really bugged me.

Well, it seems like it would have been a good idea anyway to let Olivia be with her mother rather than with her stepmother, let alone her stepmother's parents, when her father was away in the navy.
