I think Beaver missed a good play tonight with those Brussels Sprouts. I think if it had been me, I would have pretended to be allergic to them. And then, if I were finally forced to eat one, as Beaver was at the restaurant, I would have loudly pretended to go into anaphylactic shock, clawing at my throat, etc. I think that would have settled the Brussels sprouts issue.

Sounds like what my daughter has pulled with me. When she was little she refused to eat eggs. Now coincidentally, she has become allergic to them. So now, she has never had to eat eggs (by themselves). It's funny how she can eat them in cookie, or cake dough and doesn't break out, or start clutching at her throat!

I'm really weird. I love Brussels Sprouts. When I was little, I got a kick out of the fact that they look like tiny heads of lettuce. I don't think they taste bad. I like lima beans, too. But I HATE spinach.

This allergic reaction bit is an excellent idea, BrandonS! Beaver would have to be a pretty good actor to pull it off though. I can just imagine June calling the doctor to come over, and then he figures out Beaver is faking it. I always though June was taking that brussel sprouts thing too seriously. Heck, let the kid eat carrots! Or anything else more edible than brussel sprouts! They're a disgusting vegetable in my book. I've always eaten many kinds of vegetables, but I wouldn't tough brussel sprouts with a ten foot fork! |

Yea, "Beaver Won't Eat" (a.k.a "Brussels Sprouts Episode) shows a more angry or at least determined June than what we are used to seeing....I remember from about 3 years old that I hated green peas and to this day the smell of them makes me very sick. (I also hate the smell of tuna fish and hard-boiled eggs.) So, I felt real bad for Beaver that June made him eat Brussels Sprouts. Some kids just can't eat certain vegtables without a bad reaction to them! I would have said...."NO DEAL" if I was Beaver!

Hi all ~
This episode was funny (and I don't like brussels sprouts, even though I've never tried them - just the smell is bad enough!) Do you remember the older lady in the background who didn't think June should force him to eat - "don't send him home . . . " - she was funny, and June definitely did not appreciate her input! I wonder if parents today make their kids sit at the table until they finish their meal? Seems like that's something they did more in the "olden days" - I remember my mother used to occasionally make these ground beef patties with some kind of strange-tasting spices and I just hated them - but she would make me sit at the table until I ate every bit - no fun! Peace ~ |
