from Yahoo:
Robert Stack, the actor famed for playing crime fighter Eliot Ness in the TV series "The Untouchables," has died at his Los Angeles home at the age of 84, the show business newspaper Daily Variety reported on Thursday. Reuters Photo Stack earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for Douglas Serk's "Written on the Wind" in 1956, and he won renewed popularity with his comic role in the 1980 movie satire "Airplane!" Stack also served as the narrator for the syndicated series "Unsolved Mysteries." He played crime fighter Ness in "The Untouchables" from 1959 to 1963, winning an Emmy for the role in 1963. He also appeared on other TV series, including "Most Wanted" and "Strike Force." Stack was born on Jan. 13, 1919, in Los Angeles. |

Oh my. A couple days ago I was standing in a checkout line reading the covers of tabloids, and one of them had something about RS's brave last days. I thought it was just something false like everything else in those mags. Guess not.

That's sad. I loved the film Airplane. I saw it last month on the Family channel. What did he die of?

Thats so sad. Last time I saw UM, I was wondering how old he was and how he could be so old and still be alive. I know it sounds harsh, but thats what I was thinking. It's sad and I feel bad for his family right now.

I was listening to the radio this morning when I heard this and was so shocked. I loved Unsolved Mysteries ever since I was like 8 and watched it almost every day. This is horrible news.
