Was Andy or Barney ever married in real life? You never hear anything about their wives or children.
It's funny you watch the show so much, you begin to think he was really married to Helen. I thought that they should have had Barney married to Thelma Lou in the reunion. I hated that they made Barney in to such a lonley person after he moved from Mayberry. |

I know Andy was married a few times and Don has a daughter, so he had to have been married once. Eh, let me look it up.

Thank you for the information, although I am a little disappointed in Andy Griffith. I guess I have this unrealistic opinion of him because of his show. But I guess he is human like everyone else.

Thanks Jenny. I didn't know that Andy lost a son. That's a shame.
It's strange to me to think that Don Knotts was in the midst of a divorce while on Three's Company. It must be hard to act so funny while going through a difficult ordeal. |

I just want to repectfully point out that the image we have of our favorite acors, actresses, singers, athletes, etc is the public side of them, and the "real" person is quite different. I am legally blind and have always looked for inspiration / role models in the above mentioned groups. I even sought to write a biography of a singer who inspired me and moved me deeply, and I found a cold, "couldn't care less" attitude. I learned the hard way to love the character or athlete, etc, and while respecting the man (or wonman) behind the personna we see, to not have un-realistic expectations of them in "real life." Andy Griffith is well-liked and well-respected in show business, but like the rest of us, he probably has his share of faults. It doesn't make him a bad person, just human like the rest of us. Peace! I agree with Anticento. I work in the entertainment business and the image that actors put forth on both the big and little screen is quite the opposite of what they are . I can name you several actors known for their wholesome, family-oriented image; however, their personal lives mirror the exact opposite. Good actors generally have split personalities.

Brenton,
I always felt that way when I see Joanna Moore as Andys rich girlfriend. In real life had a problem with alcohol and drugs. She seems so pretty and wholesome on the show. |
