In the 1972-73 season CBS aired on Saturdays, after All In the Family, Bridget Loves Bernie with David Birney and Meredith Baxter. He was of the Jewish faith and she was Irish Catholic. Despite its popularity, the show was pulled off the air due to complaints by religious groups.
If the show was to air today would it be a hit and stay on the air? What actors could had played Bernie and Bridget? |

I think it probably wouldn't make it today unless they put in the swearing. Most modern shows have so much foul language that it turns my stomach. My brother insists that they have to include it because that's "real life". Well, that's certainly not what our family is like.
I loved the show myself, and I can't even remember the fact that they were of different faiths. If we watched only the shows that presented our own beliefs, TV would probably not be in existence. The ones that put up the biggest stink get heard, sad to say. Also, weren't Bridget and Bernie actually married in real life? Reality has blended with fiction in my mind, so I may be way off beat.

They tried to remake it/rip it off 5 years ago with "You're The One" but although I thought it was better it wasn't on very long. And yes they were married in real life.

It might be a success. I doubt there would be as much complaining by religious groups, anyway.

I don't know if it would be a hit but I do know that David Birney evolved into a very talented actor! He is awesome!
