Default The BIG Difference Between "WINGS" and "Cheers" and "Taxi"

Don't get me wrong...I love "Cheers" and "Taxi". Both were well-written and well-acted sitcoms. However, "Wings" is just so much more to me.

I think the big difference is that "Wings" seems to have a certain "heart" that those other shows just don't have.

When I watch "Cheers" or "Taxi", I'll laugh and enjoy the episode...but I still think of those shows as just a bunch of actors standing or sitting around saying funny lines.

While I realize that the characters on "Wings" are fictitious, for some reason THOSE characters seem much more warm and human to me. When I tune in to an episode of "Wings", it's like I'm having a pleasant visit with old friends.

I think that the characters and atmosphere of "Wings" have a certain, extra-special something that those other shows (as good as they are) just don't have.

ITA, Pilotguy! I feel the *exact* same way!

Plus I think there's something much cooler about the airport and the pilots. The bar is a bar, and that taxi company was just plain depressing.

Also, I don't think the acting on Taxi was good at all.

Little funny side story... on my job I used to have to fly around the state (Florida.) One particular flight was Tallahassee to West Palm Beach on this tiny little 19 seat prop. No bathroom, no stewardess. The pilot would just come out and say, "We're flying to West Palm now, buckle up."

Now, I'm no fan of flying anyway, but this taxed my nerves. So I used to calm myself down by repeating to myself, "Brian and Joe do this all the time." When I told my co-worker about that, she said, "You know Cindy, those people aren't real."

Yeah, I *know* -- but still... it made me feel better!

Love,

Wing<><

yes, I totally agree with you, pilotguy!

I used to watch Taxi once in a while and i thought it was funny and all that, and I watched Cheers a lot, and I had the same feelings about it, but there is that *something* that those two shows don't have that Wings does have. I'm not quite sure what it is...
Well, Wings is funnier than those two shows, I think, but that's not what I mean.. you know what I think it is? The cast of Wings has an incredible chemistry together, and I love seeing that played out on screen. And in my opinion, the acting is better too. I've always valued shows with great acting. t's something I've always noticed. and the actors of Wings are all very talented, and that sets it apart from a lot of other sitcoms...

I like Wings a little bit better than Cheers and Taxi too. They're all wonderful, intelligent sitcoms that I enjoy watching, but Wings had something that Cheers and Taxi didn't. I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something.
