In the newest issue of Video Business magazine, their VidBits section contains this informaton: Seinfeld prepping Seinfeld The Seinfeld TV series is finally being prepared for a DVD release, according to co-creator/star Jerry Seinfeld. In the May issue of VB sister publication DVD Exclusive (formerly DVD Premiers), Seinfeld says he is helping to create interviews and commentaries and dig up the annual season-ending gag reels that could be included as extras. Seinfeld will be on The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno, On the Record With Bob Costas, and Live With Regis and Kelly May 14-19 to promote the Miramax DVD of his theatrical documentary Comedian, which he produced and loaded with extras. He said the decision and timing of the Seinfeld series on DVD is in the hands of Columbia parent Sony Pictures, which owns distribution rights. Sources at Sony and CTHE said it's not a question of if it will come out, but when. We thank "Jough", a Senior Member of DVDTalk.com, for relaying the news. But with news this hot, we could hardly believe it. So our site's very own David Lambert personally called the editor of Video Business and verified that the news is indeed accurate...every word! The news will also appear on Video Business and/or Variety websites within the next day or two. Rejoice! The show about "nothing" is finally almost here! Seinfeld |

In our Seinfeld news item the other day, we mentioned that Variety, Video Business, & DVD Exclusive magazines (all publications of Reed Business Information) would be posting online the information that we relayed. Yesterday afternoon that information was posted in this article at Variety.com (free registration required to view). Scott Hettrick, home entertainment editor of Variety and editor-in-chief of sister trade magazine Video Business, personally interviewed Jerry Seinfeld about his new DVD release this week, Comedian. During the interview, Scott asked several questions about the Seinfeld series on DVD, and Jerry was very candid with his answers. Examples: DVDX: Now that you've signed your second major syndication deal for Seinfeld, the series, what's happening with the series coming to DVD? That has to be the most requested, or one of the most requested series for DVD. Seinfeld: Yeah, I know. Wherever I perform, sometimes at the end of the show I take questions from the audience, and that always comes up. Always. They all want the DVD. I don't know why. It's on every day. But people like to own things, I guess. I've heard some talk of it. It's really one of those things that, I'm not participating in that decision. DVDX: Oh really? Seinfeld: No. It's a distribution decision. But I'm hearing that it's in the air. They're definitely considering it. Other topics covered include which studio presently owns the show, what rights issues - if any - are known at this time, what Jerry's role is in getting the DVD's out, and what extras Jerry would like to see on the release. Please read the interview in its entirety, available here at DVDExclusive.com (no registration required). It's one terrific interview! |

Craig Crumpton sent us an email qith a quote from the November 14 issue of Entertainment Weekly: "Exec producer Howard West claims that DVDs *are* in the works and should roll out by late next year. 'It takes time,' he explains about adding extras -- unseen footage, behind-the-scenes interviews -- to episodes filmed as long ago as 1990. 'We have to go backward to go forward.' But Columbia-TriStar, who will distribute, says it has no timetable for the release." This is great news and jives with the previous info Dave posted back in May. |
