I wanted to give my thoughts on some of the "All in the Family"- related books that were released during the original run of the show.
Wit and Wisdom of Archie Bunker- This book was the first AITF tie in book and was published in 1971. This paperback, using dialogue from several episodes, presents Archie Bunker's views on just about any topic imaginable. Archie Bunker's Family Album- This paperback, released in 1973, is a gem. The book is presented as a real family album, using pictures of the Bunkers (some rare photos) and captions from the family members to showcase moments of Bunkerdom. Of the AITF books, this one is my favorite and one that I highly recommend. All in the Family- This 1976 novel features six short story novelizations of episodes from the series. The episodes novelized include: Cousin Maude's Visit, Games Bunkers Play, Women's Lib, Archie's Aching Back, Archie is Jealous, and Second Honeymoon. God, Man, and Archie Bunker-This 1975 book uses Archie, of all people, to discuss religious principles. This one is the least favorite of the AITF books, mainly due to the numerous erroneous statements and tidbits regarding the show (Example-crediting the God is Black and Santa Claus is Black conversation to George Jefferson instead of Henry Jefferson). All of the above books are enjoyable and worth seeking out and getting especially the aforementioned Archie Bunker's Family Album. |

Okay, I just finished reading some of the books that you mentioned, Shawn.
Wit and Wisdom of Archie Bunker- Out of 5 stars, I give it a 4.5. It's awesome and I'd def. recommend it. Family Album- Oh yeah, def 5 stars for this one. Hilarious book all the way around. Def. worth buying. All in the Family- I'd give it a 4.5. Great book. Tv's First Family- Just got finished reading this one. I'd give it a 3.5. It's got some background stuff about the show, and I did find it interesting. It's just when I got to the very back and started reading some of the full of it articles and opinions, the rating kind of went down. The bs is for another topic, won't open that can of worms right now. |
