Default Marsters in, Carpenter out as the WB renews 'Angel'

from http://www.thefutoncritic.com/

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) - A fifth season of "Angel" will take flight as the WB has ordered 22 episodes for next season. The news comes on the eve of the Frog's upfront presentation to the advertising community tomorrow morning.

"Angel" will remain at 9:00/8:00c on Wednesdays where it will be joined by a relocated "Smallville" at 8:00/7:00c. The WB held off an earlier pickup as the network wanted to see how all of its drama pilots would pan out, not to mention that a new licensing deal had to be negotiated. The new deal with distributor 20th Century Fox (financial details of which were not revealed) includes an option for a sixth season of the series.

Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" regular James Marsters is also set to reprise his role as Spike on the drama next season while Charisma Carpenter, who plays Cordelia, is not expected to return as a series regular. On the producing side, Jeffrey Bell and Tim Minear will be the executive producers/showrunners next season.

NO!!!!!!!!!! They were supposed to get rid of Connor not Cordelia. I can't believe it.

Thanks for the news TVJunkie

You're welcome.

It says "...not as a series regular." so that could mean she will be recurring throughout the season, or at least make guest appearances.

Still though, I like her character, she was growing on me lol

Here is more news about it. Mostly of what you posted, but a little more...

'Angel' wings in

Angel has been renewed for another full season, wednesdays at 9pm on the WB, with 'Smallville' as lead-in.

Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) will likely no longer be a regular cast member, however James Marsters (Spike from 'Buffy') has signed on to join the series, and there is a high possibility other 'Buffy' cast members will appear on the show as well.

Joss Whedon also says that he will write and direct episodes this year.

The WB has the option for a sixth season.

Also, making this thread sticky for Angel fans to read.

Wow, that was really unexpected. I'm with Chris, I thought Connor was the one that would be out and the rest would stay. Um, I liked Cordelia. I thought Charisma did an excellent job with the character and she really brought humor to Buffy and to the first season(s) of Angel. I'm really gonna miss her. I'm happy James is coming on board for Angel, but I'm gonna miss Charisma being on the show. I hope she does quite a few guest appearances. Yeah, I did prefer the smart ass Cordelia instead of the gone evil Cordelia, so I hope they make her into a smart ass again.

However, I can't really blame Charisma for leaving. She just had a child and I know if I were in her shoes, I'd prob. leave so I could spend time with my child. Children grow up so fast and acting just takes time away from your family.

I can't say that I watch Angel very much, but I'm glad that James is going to portray Spike on this series now that Buffy is over. Maybe I'll start watching it more now.

Without Charisma Carpenter's Cordelia, I won't be watching. It's that simple.

I admit to never watching Angel, but will make an effort to watch now that Marsters has signed on. What a hottie!
