Default Get Smart DVD set. Help.

As seen in my earlier topic I have been trying to get Get Smart on DVD. I had originally made a deal with a guy to put my entire set on DVD with menus and everything but the guy has since disappeared before anything could get done. If anyone out there has the ability to make DVD's of this show and is willing to help post here and I will contact you. I have every episode in good quality (much higher then those horrible ebay sets). Lets get this show out there.

Waiting for Paramount to put together a box set of Get Smart episodes is a case of unwarranted optimism of the worst kind. It is great that there are individuals in this forum who are willing to put a DVD set themselves. Is it feasible? Has it happened yet?

Looks like someone here has all the Get Smarts on Tape.
If those tapes can get to Dallas, I can get them copied to DVD.
Should be able to fit 4, maybe 5, episodes on a DVD.
Costs of the DVDs plus time to edit out commercials and time it takes to baby-sit the recorder would have to be determined (I can't do it myself, but know of someone who could, but would need some bucks to make it happen)
Any interest? Anyone offerring their tapes?

Alright guys. The project is under way. I have 55 eps on DVD right now and the guy who is putting them on for me will be recieving the rest of my tapes at the beginning of January. This may be our only chance to get this as the ones I've seen on ebay have proved to be from untrustworthy sources (the guy just disappeared). Anyway if anyone wants a copy let me know and I'll be glad to help out when they are all done.

I applaud those who are putting their own collections on DVD. However, I am still going to hold out for official releases.

It may not be this year or even next year, but I believe that if sales of the other 60's sitcoms that have been released recently continue to stay high that studios will start to release more of their catalog on DVD. We've already heard rumblings that "Jeannie" and "Bewitched" may be coming by 2005. "Get Smart" is a huge cult classic and I have no doubt that it will be released eventually.

The other reason to wait is that the official releases will be unedited. The synicated versions are all missing several minutes of footage.

Default Get Smart on DVD...

Dear GS Fans,

Is there any word regarding the burning of Get Smart episodes on DVD? I thought the project was going ahead in January but I haven't heard anything since then. Is there progress on this front?

Hey people. Some updates. I still (as i said earlier) have 55 eps on DVD and the guy that is putting them on there for me is busy with another project now and I've been busy with school. I will be done in 1 month and able to help out people who would like copies of these eps on DVD. If you're interested then June would be the time to get ahold of me. Sorry I'm just too busy right now.

Hello All! I do not know much at all, really none, about making one's own DVD sets, but I must say that it sounds interesting. This series shows no signs of making its way onto DVD bu Paramount within the nest five years, so I think this "homemade" set would be a good investment. I do have a few questions I would like to have answered, though.

1. I don't know who owns these tapes, but are they the unedited versions, or the 21-22 minute versions we see in syndication?
2. If they are recorded off cable, will we have to have that awful TV Land bug on the screen?
3. I am not sure how this works, but is it possible to actually make a quality-set with a slipcase, a booklet with pictures and actor bios and all the neat stuff we get with a DVD boxed set we would find in a store?
4. I know bonus features, especially footage, would be a near impossibility, but is it possible to have scene selections, a play all feature, and subtitles?

These above questions may seem ridiculous, but I have never made a DVD set; I do not even have a DVD burner.

For some interesting discussion of Get Smart on DVD you might want to check out the Get Smart group on Yahoo.

Paramount has indicated that they are interested in putting this out on DVD, but that they want it to coincide with the release of a planned big screen remake.

A number of other releases (Charlie's Angels, SWAT, Starskey & Hutch, etc.) have all gotten released because of big screen remakes.

Algebra74 - I don't know the particulars behind these specific tapes, but in general, if someone tapes a show from TV and converts to DVD you are going to be dealing with (1) edited syndicated prints (except in rare cases) and (2) bugs/logos.

To avoid both of these, you are going to have to find someone who has uncut 16mm prints in good condition and has had them transferred to DVD.

To answer question (3), yes it is possible, but usually those take someone who is a full time bootlegger with enough money to do this. Obviously there are legal issues with this.

The options in question (4) are possible if you have one of the more elaborate PC based DVD authoring software packages. Again, someone will have to have a lot of time on their hands to do this (especially to manually type in the subtitles). (Basic chapter stops are part of most DVD recorders, but the stops are player generated).

I don't have a burner either, but these are things I've noted in my research.
