Wow,
Do they put jinny through the ringer or what? Are they kidding us with this nonsense? If jinny was a REAL person she would have killed herself (or gotten herself killed) a LONG time ago. Jinny is the heart and soul of this show. Why are they pileing all this misery on one person? Who the hell want's to see anyone in that much pain? I could almost understand if she had to deal with any ONE of the things that she is dealing with now. They want us to buy all of them at the same time? Give me a break! The producers of this show need to get a grip a come back to reality. The sooner the better. ![]() I agree that it creates good drama to see a character struggling with any number of life's big issues. But only if it's presented in a way that the audience finds the situation believable. If you try to hard, and develop totally unrealistic storylines, you can push away the audience that your constantly trying to build. Someone needs to step up and get a handle on this ASAP. By contrast, tonight's episode of STRONG MEDICINE was simply outstanding.

THANK YOU!!! I agree 110% with you about the Producers needing to get a grip and cut down on all the stuff wrong with Jinny. Seriously... the drinking was on thing. Then the pills... then the synthetic heroin. NOW ALL OF THEM AT ONCE PLUS A GUN... Please. They had no choice with the John Jr. storyline, but please... It really wasn't an episode I would want in my memory. Seriously, it would have been good I liked how they flashed through Scott Plank's photos, but they had to pile crap all around that and made it into an episode that I just don't find appealing.

I disagree, I find it very realistic, do you think that people have one problem get help and the rest of their life is great? People like Jinny go from one problem to another.

I also disagree..... I think Jinny's storyline is very realistic. It' not uncommon to get hooked on drugs when you're an alcoholic. Its not uncommon to be depressed when you're an alcoholic. I think Jinny is suffering through the same depression her mother did. Her brothers death pushed her over the edge. On one hand, John Jr was a jerk with three ex wives.... on the other hand, she flashes back to particular moments that she loved him for. It's realistic to have many problems at the same time..... they arent overdoing it. I think the writers are throwing Jinny back in the focal point of the show simply because alcoholics slip, its realistic, it also brings up ratings.... not that the division is losing its edge.... just it makes things more interesting as well. Psychologically speaking Jinny has mental issues to deal with... Her portrayal as a kid was realistic and likable to me because people change, and your mentality as a kid and as an adult are very different. as far as the clothes..... they were making it 80ish. Just because she is a tough person now doesnt mean she was a tough alcoholic as a kid in the flashback youknow what im saying? I think they were all portrayed ok and i was satisfied.

I thought it was an awesome show. Yeah, Jinny has alot to deal with now, but it's probably pretty close to reality. Someone who has severe depression problems, will probably try all the things Jinny is. Maybe not all at the same time, but maybe so. I'd like to see Jinny beat all of this though. She deserves to be happy. But, I think she's going to have to confront her mom's suicide before she gets over any of it.
I think that Nancy did an outstanding job! No one could play Jinny better. IMO |

Well I have to agree with Miranda and the girl who started off this post, BUT I also must say that although she shouldn't have to be dealing with so many problems at once the way she did it was awesome! I mean did anyone pay attention to the way she pulled off her role as Jinny Exstead? I mean come on. She is truly inspiring and a very talented woman and a joy to watch. SHe most definetly deserves some kind of award. I can't think of any actor/actress that can do as good a job on a role like that. She makes her rold so believeable, BUT the storylines aren't so believeable. There's a difference. Now as far as what happened in the show itself, this is how her character looked to me. She looked like she just stepped out of the grave, and on to set. lol She looked like DEATH the whole episode. lol Not to mention how deranged she was for trying to get her pills out of the garbage disposal! lol Say bye bye to your fingers. lol As far as Jack goes, I STILL don't like him better then Teddy, BUT on the flip side he plays a more active role in Jinny's life then Teddy ever did or I think would ever do. But on the flips side of that, I think Jinny has a hard time making phyiscal contact with him. Did anyone notice no make out scenes? A little side kiss here and there but that's it. I don't think Nancy likes Dean at all, so much so that she can't picture herself being intimate with him (even acting wise) and they're MARRRIED, DUH! lol And Magda, what is wrong with you girl???? YOU ARE MARRIED TOO! That's it, I've totally lost all faith in relationships, it's not like I had any before. But it figures, right? Then, oh THEN when she tried to stop him right in the middle of IT she was like no I can't. I was like DUH! Too late now you're already half naked! lol And Jonah wasn't at all sensitive to her needs. Never once did he say are you ok with this? He never gave her a chance to change her mind. BUT she should have never gone on that date in the first place. So they're both in the wrong.

Oh how can I forget! I LOVED, totally LOVED how Jack was sitting there drinking too. HaHa I bet that really got to Jinny. At first I was like good idea using her worst enemy against her, he'll get wasted like she does. THEN it hit me. OH YEAH, he's a recovering alcoholic too! Oh this episode was AWESOME. Then of course, the ending. The only thing stopping Jinny from blowing her brains out was her borther's voice coming over on the answering machine, and thinking he would walk in on her and find her the way she found her mother. For ONCE it was GREAT WRITING.

) The part that shocked me was the hiding the pills in the tampons. That was kinda funny, actually. Even though it was this big, dramatic scene, I was thinking, "Leave it to Jinny to hide 'em there!" |

ok, This is by far my most/least favorite eppies, all of Jinny's depression scenes before she had the gun in her mouth hit just a little too close to home and that would be the least part but the most part is this, that all of Jinnys depression depency because of the depression (everything but the gun thank god!) I have seen, people with depression will do pracitly anything to make all the pain go away, one of the ways to do that is to feel numb, hence all the pills.
Jinny has clearly fallen into a deeper depression then her mother, she hasn't killed herself but that is because for years she masked her depression behind her drinking. Jinny is not giving up on her substances because they in a way (not anymore but they did) mask her true feeling. Many people with depression don't want others to know about it, it makes them feel weak. What Jinny needs a doctor the don't really help all the time but at least it is an improvment. The most well written part of the whole show was Jinny's mom. I think that writers did an awesome job of having her never say a word and to just out of no where walk out of the room with a headache. And John Sr. telling the kids to quiet down, he reminded me of my own dad when he said that it was werid. I kinda liked the flash backs in a way, if you took Casey out of the picture that would be my house! in another sense it just didn't seem to fit them. As for Nancy not liking dean I have an article hanging on my door where Nancy states "I get married to dean Cain hes my TV husband, and hes a great one! I chose well..." that all just IMO |

ok well seeing how about three people just disagreed with me, let me explain what I meant! lol lol Of course I didn't mean hey you lost your brother let's have sex or hey you're drunk let's have sex, what I MEANT was Jack is there for her in EVERY WAY a husband should be except intimatly. And does anyone here remember the first season, when Jinny would get totally wasted then go sleep with any guy she saw, and now she can't even sleep with her husband. lol I just found it wierd, to only have seen one bed scene with them in it. And.....no I'm not a perverted sex freak, lol I just found it odd. Odd enough to mention it on the boards because to me it just stands out a lot in every episode, how distant they both are in the relationship. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's all I meant, hehe does that clear things up any?

yeah and as far as hiding the pills there, I wasn't even sure I was seeing what I was seeing. I was like she did NOT just hide them in there! lol I just found that way funny!!! lol Then yeah she puts her hand in the garbage disposal really shocked me, and if Jack hadn't taken her hand out she probably wouldn't have one.

Someone who's self-medicating will trying anything and everything to 'fix' the problem. Including taking drugs while drinking. It would have been more unrealistic if she hadn't started drinking again or taking drugs since the initial problem, ie the obvious mental health issues, were never dealt with.
As far as her not wanting Jack to drink, I think that came from the same part of her that pulled the gun away when Casey called. If he goes off the wagon too, then there will be nobody to help her maintain what little control she has left over her life. |
