You mean so you can upload your pics and use them? You can do that on AOL. Just go to keyword: FTP. Then when it comes up click on 'members.aol.com' and it should log you into your own directory. To upload files just click upload and a box will pop up.

When I got the Internet account I'm using now, they gave me the right to have a small Web page, as I'm sure many Internet accounts do. If I had wanted to pay for a more expensive account, I could have more storage area and more features and support, but I didn't need anything like that. They told me which directory to put my Web pages in, and gave me an FTP client, WS_FTP95, so that I could go to the directory they had specified for me and upload them. To make each Web page, I have to write an HTML file. They also told me what URL I could reach my new page at. All I had to do to make a Web page was to write it using HTML and name it "index.html." That becomes the top level page. As soon as I created a page, named it "index.html" and uploaded it to my directory on their server, I could see it by putting the URL in any browser. If I put a picture in that same directory, all I have to do is link to it on one of my pages, and it will show up there. HTML isn't very hard, and there are lots of books that explain it, but if you don't want to learn it right now, you can use an HTML editor like Microsoft Front Page. I know there are a lot of free HTML editors. I don't know too much about them, although I've heard of some of them, like 1st Page 2000 and AOLPress. Good luck!

Oh wow, I remember AOLPress when I was first starting out, I used that program. Although, now I can't remember if it was any good or not. I also used to use the free Frontpage that came with IE, which I really liked because you could see the html part of the site as well as the view of the page without even going to a browser to test it out, but now I just do everything through notepad. Enhanced HTML is also another good html program.

All I ever use is notepad too. Before I got an Internet account, I read a book on HTML, and since then, I write all my pages by hand, although, truthfully, the kind of pages I write aren't very challenging. I bought a used copy of FrontPage on the Web, and I've tried it, but I still feel the most comfortable writing my pages by hand. Probably if I had to do something very fancy, I'd switch to an editor program

I'm not trying to say I'm better or anything, but to be honest I have never read any html books or taken any classes to learn what I know. I've just seem to collect the knowledge of websites by visiting other people's websites through the years. Viewing sources, seeing how they put them together and such. I'm not comfortable at all creating sites with an html editor I just don't like it for some reason. I like to start from scratch in notepad. Although, I've become very big on PHP and it makes it easier so you don't have to keep copying certain codes like you would have to in regular html.

I think you have to put the image code into your html so the images show up on your site.

If you learned HTML without even checking out a book, that's quite remarkable. The way my mind works is that typically when I want to know how to do something, I find a book or two and read it before I even try. Usually I do this even when what I'm trying to learn isn't academic in nature. I know that a lot of people read the manual only as a last resort, but typically it's the first thing I do to learn anything. Like you, I have never felt comfortable with HTML editors, so I always write everything by hand. I'm a programmer professionally, and I am very used to writing code of all kinds, so maybe that's why I prefer to write my HTML by hand.
