I just got one yesterday. It's the best darn thing I've ever owned. It makes life so simple. It has it's pros and cons, more pros than cons, but I love it. I tape a LOT of stuff, and now it's all programmed (well, most, some I can catch with regular tape) and I don't have to worry about rushing home to stick a tape in, or wake up late at night to be sure I put in a tape in, etc.

It was a little hard to to get the TiVo to change the channels with my DirecTV receiver, but I got the transmitters in the right place (after 3 hours). That was the only difficult thing about it. It was so easy to install it. The guy at Best Buy was like "it's VERY hard to install... blah blah blah". I even activated online without wasting a phone call.

I'm VERY happy with it. It wasn't all that expensive either ($250 for 40 hours).

The only con is that it tapes from like EXACTLY at (example) 7:00 - 7:59. I hate that. I like things to start, say 6:59, a minute earlier, and you CAN choose that, but it won't let you do that if something is on before, like say 6:00-6:59. So, that kind of sucks, but I'll live. I tape a ton of stuff without commercials, and am not always home, so it makes it easy now to go back (without wasting tons of tapes) and recopy (the quality is excellent) without the hassle of searching through tape after tape for a certain episode.

I guess I'll stop rambling, lol.

Tivo didn't really do all that well in the UK. As far as I know they've dropped out of the market completely due to lack of consumer interest.
We have Sky+ in the UK which is much, much better than Tivo ever was!

Default stupid people

I just got through fighting with some stupid woman on AOL who thinks anyone who spends money on Tivo is silly I mean this woman obviously doesn't know jack about Tivo. I swear I hate when people spout out BS about stuff they don't even know about without even getting the facts.

I dunno, I looked it up after I read this thread and it still didn't answer questions for me. I read that it's all digitally stored stuff, that you can't use tapes. If I can't tape it then I'd not want it. I'm not into the whoel VCD DVD thing as I want to be able to trade and stuff.

But I'd like someone else to explain it as well

Tivo is great. I have season passes for CSI: Miami, CSI, Law & Order, and Dragnet.

With Tivo, you could set it to digitally record any TV show without the need of a VCR. You can also pause live TV with it.

You CAN TRANSFER to tape. It tapes digitally for re-watching later. It is so handy. So, if you tape something you want to keep, just hook up a VCR (it has the connections) and transfer whenever you get a chance.

I knew that. I just meant that you don't have to use a VCR and a tape to do the recording.
