Post Martina McBride article for Madelyn and other fans

Here I go, This is probably the longest thread I have ever posted but here is a Martina Mcbride article I found. I thought of Madelyn. It's for her and all other Martina Fans.

Martina McBride

Martina McBride burst on the Country Music scene like a beautiful comet. She was working as a waitress ,singing on demo tapes, and selling T-shirts for Garth Brooks' tour in the early 1990s,and today Martina is one of the Opry's brightest stars.
"Becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry is something I've wanted since I was a little girl,"Martina said when she joined November 30,1995."I never thought it would happen. It's so incredible. Whenever I do the Opry it still feels like the first time. I still get nervous." She added, "The Opry's going to be here for hundreds of years, and I'm just proud my name is on that list.
It's a highlightof my life. An amazing honor."
Born Martina Schifft in Sharon ,Kansas, Martina learned Country Music when her father- a farmer who had his own part-time band,The Schiffters- taught her such classics as "I Fall To Pieces,"
by Opry legend Patsy Cline;and "Satin Sheets" by Opry star Jeanne Pruett. Martina started singing with him when she was seven."Dad played acoustic guitar and sang. I sang with him. Mom ran the sound board. It was a family thing to do. It was quite an upbringing.Every Saturday night we played dances," she said."I always felt like singing was what I was put here to do. Music was the center of my little world. So it was natural for me to pursue this."Martina never entertained a profession of singing, and her parents never suggested that she shouldn't or couldn't make it. "They believed in me 110 percent," She recalled."And if they didn't, they did the best job of acting I've ever seen. It was an incredible gift for them to give to me."
As soon as she got out of highschool, Martina began singing seriously. She went to Hutchinson,Kansas and sang with a band there for a year and a half. Soon she decided to form her own band and rented a rehearsal studio from a sound system operator named John McBride. This relationship blossomed into marriage, and in early 1990 the newlyweds moved to Nashville. In 1991 when John went on tour with Garth Brooks as his production manager,Martina went along and sold T- shirts for Garth. Two years later-and after signing with RCA Records - She became Garth's opening act, performing songs from her first albumn"The Time Has Come." The following year her second album,"The Way That I Am," went platinum and yielded two Top 10 hits with "My Baby Loves Me" and "Life No.9." It also contained the Grammy-nominated hit "Independence Day" won the "Music Video of the Year" award in 1994 from CMA,CMT(Europe) ,and music Music City News/TNN. It earned the same honors in 1995 from Country Weekly Magazine: The Great British Music Awards:Clio Music Video Awards; and the Music CityNMews/TNN Country Awards which Martina co-hosted.
"Safe In The Arms Of Love," Martina's first single from her third album,"Wild Angels," was a Top 5 hit."Wild Angels" received a Gold Clio Award for Country Music Video of the Year in 1996. She has also recorded "Amazing Grace- A Country Salute To Gospel," for which she received a Grammy, and "Mother And Child - A Christmas Celebration of Motherhood." In 1996,Martina was named Best Female artist by the Country Radio Music Awards.
Martina is happy where her career is at the moment. "I've enjoyed the growth process so much. I think my music has gotten consistently better. I've steadily been building my fan base."
And she added,"The climb has been a blast."

I finally finished. I typed it word from word. It is from The Grand Ole Opry History book.
I hope you enjoy it Madelyn. Also other fans. Maybe one day some of you will find A Cher or Cyndi Lauper story you can post from my 2 favorite singers.
