'The Nitwits' Buzzi Query - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

WAAAAY back in the '70's, I saw this cartoon produced by the same folks who'd animated 'The Pink Panther' which updated the old 'Laugh-In' skit of Arte Johnson's dirty old man Tyrone trying to pick up Ruth Buzzi's frumpy old maid Gladys Ormphby and having her whack him with her purse. Anyhoo, the 'twist' was that this cartoon had them married and Tyrone was a flying superhero (?!?) who Gladys did her best to help out! And I'd like to say that the animators did a good job drawing their characters as believable caracatures of their live-action counterparts and had Johnson and Buzzi doing the voices.
One odd thing I noticed that I've never seen answered anywhere was that the last few episodes of the single-season cartoon, Gladys was nowhere to be seen and Buzzi was no longer heard. .but they brought in Tyrone's lookalike but unfunny mother to provide support! I'm sure that this is NOT what anyone had in mind when planning this cartoon [ what would have been the point?] so I'm wondering if Buzzi and the producers had some kind of falling out or was she unable to do the last few episodes? I've never seen any explanation offered so I'm wondering if anyone here has any idea what happened! Thanks!
