Thumbs down Enough is Enough!

The Abby/Carter saga is getting to be the worst story line on the show. The sooner they go there separate ways the better.(for both of them) Love is supposed to improve the overall quality of your life. (in theory) It should not be something that is a constant source of pain and disappointment. It should make you feel special, desired, valued, comforted and safe. Your partner should be giving you all of these things and a lot more. If your aren't getting these crucial things from your mate, you DON'T HAVE A RELATIONSHIP, you have an arrangement.

This is exactly what Abby & Carter have right now,... an arrangement.

Don't get me wrong, I think that they could have a relationship at some point in the future. It's just not possible right now.

I really like Abby

I really like Carter

I just don't like them together.

They just aren't good for each other at this point in there lives. (hey, it happens in real life all the time)

The only chance that these two have (or any two people for that matter) is if they get control of there own separate lives first. If you bring in a boatload of baggage from past relationships / family problems into a new relationship, it's very unfair to their partner. I'm sure we all have enough problems in our everyday lives to deal with on a daily basis. We don't need someone else's problems adding to the stress and pressure we already have. Too much DRAMA in your life is a very bad thing. No matter how hard you try to fight it, you will start to RESENT your partner for the problems that they keep bringing into the relationship.

This is EXACTLY what is going on here with Abby & Carter. They have way too many personal problems in their separate lives to have a strong committed relationship with each other. The amount of stress they both are under would destroy most any chance at eventual happiness.

I hope that the writers/producers don't push the marriage issue just to get better may sweeps ratings. It would most definetly end in disaster.(well, I guess they could MAKE it work out if they wanted to)

This would however betray everything that they have been trying to build in the form of character development to this point. (don't you just love it when a character goes againt their own true nature in a storyline.)

Some people believe that "love will find a way" or "love is all you need". I unfortunetly don't think that the divorce rate (now nearing 60%) would support that arguement.

I know that their are a lot of "Hopeless Romantics" who frequent this board. I honestly hope that this mentality is reserved for fictional characters on television and not practiced in real life.

Sorry to burst your bubble ladies but, Prince Charming AKA: (Mr. PERFECT) does not exist.

Your post is awesome. Did their relationship ever have any good points? I don't think so. It all started with baggage and bull----going on. I am a firm believer that relationships need to start off positive and light before ANY sort of drama begins. Carter and Abby should have never happened. They knew eachother when they were going through crap, and I just think that you should only start seeing crap from your partner after being with them for a while. I think their relationship in the real world could only happen and succeed in rare, rare instances. It's all about interest level. How can they really have high interest in eachother when they are never having a great time together. Abby, go chase another one of your flaky relatives across the country, and this time, leave that poor sweety baby, Carter out of it. He needs someone who will treat him right. Abby should be with someone only when she can straighten out. What a downer. I commend her for her devotion toward her family, but she shouldn't put Carter through it like that. They haven't had any time together to just enjoy themselves. Time to go their seperate ways. enough IS enough.

When even Phillip Larkin says "What will survive of us, is love"...I tend to believe them, rather than an overly aggressive post by some Internet message board frequenter.

Hey, Owen, could you elaborate on your post? And what do you think is overly aggressive in the above post? I'm interested in your thoughts in detail. Thanks.

I'm sick of the Carter and Abby relationship too. They have no chemistry, IMHO, and I think both Carter and Luka deserve much better than Abby. I'm really not an Abby fan. Nothing against Maura Tierney though. She's a fine actress. I loved her on NewsRadio. I just don't like the Abby character. I'm tired of her and her screwy family and "It's all about me and my problems!"

I completely agree with you all. I dont like the Carter/Abby story line. It sucks and it is going NO WHERE! I'm starting feel like ER is not as good as it used to be. It seems to be holes everywhere. Whatever happened to Carrie and her girlfriend? Is she still gay? What's going on with Pratt and Chen? I would rather see more of their relationship story line then Carter and Abby.
