Default The "Joe and Brian" Relationship

Over the past couple of days there have been several messages about the relationship between the Hackett brothers....Are they friends? Are they really enemies?

I like to think of Joe and Brian as having the same type of relationship that Bing Crosby and Bob Hope had in the "Road" movies....namely, that of "friendly rivals". In fact, those early "Wings" episodes where Joe and Brian are competing for the affections of Helen are like the "Road" films where Bing and Bob compete for Dorothy Lamour...but through it all they still remain friends.

Joe's like Crosby....the "brains" of the team who is basically a straight-man, but still with a touch of humor.

Brian's like Hope....full of funny wisecracks and always after the ladies.

And you could say that Helen has a bit of Dorothy Lamour in her....a beautiful girl with enough spunk to put both of "those clowns" in their place.

Well, at least that's what the Joe-Brian-Helen relationship reminds ME of!

Their relationship almost reminds me of mine and my brother's relationship.
My brother and I are best friends. We do a lot of stuff together, we get along really well, we confide in each other about stuff... but we DO have our times- like when he's in a bad mood and snaps at me or something, so I get annoyed and say something just to annoy him, and then he gets annoyed and we start yelling at each other. hehe. But we don't stay mad for very long... like that just happened a few days ago, and seriously it was about 3 minutes after that until we were talking to each other like normal.
hehe but anyways, It always seems like Joe and Brian are best friends. That's one thing I really like about the show. They have their arguments and stuff, but they also do A LOT of stuff together.. they're both pilots, they work at the same place, they live together, they do stuff together... and most of the time they get along really well...

yeah.

I love the Joe/Brian relationship. They're brothers and best friends, but so different in a lot of ways. What I love is that even though Brian is the sort of wacky and funny one, while Joe is a lot of the times the protective and straight-laced one, sometimes these roles are reversed, and Brian is the one with the insight, and has to clue Joe in. An example would be in the "Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places" episode, where Brian has to clue Joe in as to why Helen is so angry that Joe gave her chocolates.
