Promoting/Advertising A Site - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I need some help here.

I have a friend who has a website and wants to get a good amount of hits on it. So far, he's gotten very little and is a bit frustrated over it. I was wondering what I could do to help promote and advertise his website so more people will come through.

See, unlike mine which is a celebrity site and pretty easy to get through on the web, he has a site that may not be as easily accepted. What can I do to help this guy out?

What kind of site is it? A personal, fan site, business?

The reason I'm asking is because there are different ways to promote a site depending on what it's about.

Well.... I was hesistant to say and please note that I do not share this individual's beliefs... but it's a site about his personal experiences with "God" (or the Archangel Michael as he refers to it) and about how "God" wants everyone to get along - essentially world peace. So, it's both an "Angel site" and a "World peace" site....

Uh..... Don't look at me..... {shrugs}

refer your friend to addme.com. that will have them go through some steps filling in what their site is about [description, title, etc.] and will list it in various search engines like yahoo, webcrawler, altavista, and more.

better yet here's a direct link to where you begin to submit sites.

Oh, I already did something like that. Sitemeter has it were you can submit yourself to multiple search engines at once like Google, Yahoo, Webcrawler, etc. It's just that sometimes either the search engines take forever to add them or they end up being 12 pages down the list or so.

Fortunately, with my site I registered over 2 years ago when the Internet was still more of a "free place" and managed to stay close to the top of the engines. Only problem is it gives my old free URL (instead of my domain which forwards to it) and the old title of the site.

I don't even bother adding my site to search engines. They pick it up anyway because I have Meta tags in my html. So the 'spiders' index my page and pick up my description, keywords, etc.

Yeah, I use META tags in all of my pages too for keywords and description. But, I didn't know by placing META tags on your site helps place it in the search engines automatically! I thought you pretty much had to add META tags, especially for keywords, to make it easier for your site to find.

No wonder I ended up on all these oddball search engines...

lol well yeah all search engines have this little thing called a 'spider' the searches through websites meta tags picking out the keywords and stuff. of course, this is also how google picks up those images in the image search. i hate when that happens!
