I just don't get it. There's one or two episodes where Sister Bertrille gambles. Isn't gambling a sin.
Not to mention her friend owns a casino. Is it just me or there's sexual tensions between Bertrille & Carlos. If it were in real life, a nun can be kicked out for that. Did the Catholic Church or FCC knew about this? I know that Madonna got in deep trouble in 1989 for her "Like A Prayer" video. That probably got banned from MTV. Or is it just me and my mind... |

In the second season of the Flying Nun,Sally Field was pregnant with her first child by her first husband, Steve Craig. I read somewhere that the Catholic Church had a field day when they heard that Sally was pregnant with a child. ABC even threatened to cancel the show because of this. In several episodes, they show Sally behind shrubs and different things because of this. As to the gambling and stuff, many people do the same thing,it happens in all religions.

Well I know this is an older post but i would like to answer it. I think both of you are right..... Sinner no...but, Yes Sally was pregnant,..... and yes on the show I think they tried to get away with everything they could, to keep viewers especially teenage and young adult crowd interested... one can plainly see little inuendos here and there with the Casino and Carlos of course. They did very well I think with out stepping over the line, with the Catholic Church looking very closely near by.

All the Carlos/Bertrille stuff went flying over the Church's collective head anyway. lol Alejandro Rey said once that there were all these rules about how Carlos could touch Sister Bertrille, etc, which he said they didn't protest because "Sally and I could do it all with our eyes anyway". lol
Anyway, Sister Bertrille wasn't a nun yet. Novices (according to a friend of mine who is a nun) are sort of "engaged" to the Church. It's a warm-up period. They aren't nuns yet. At that, most of the time, their stint is only for seven years. |

When the show first aired it won approval from the church.

If you want to see sexual tension/attraction between Sally Field and Alejandro Rey, check out an episode of "Alias Smith and Jones" titled "The Clementine Ingredient." The show is currently running on Encore/Western and this particular show ran last night. If the show continues to air, it should be rotated again in a couple of months or so.
