Weak First Seasons - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What are some great shows that took a little time to become great? Overall, I think pratically every show improves in its second season--especially if they started out as mid-season replacements.

For example I was a NewsRadio fan from the start, however I feel the first season is relatively weak & NR was much better in season 2 than season 1, & season 3&4 were better than season 2. And Happy Days greatly improved in season 3 when it adopted an audience & took on a real sitcomy-look & feel.

The Simpsons. It's amazing it survived just based on that.

I agree, the show seemed kind of dull in the first season. The second season was a major improvement.

I also thought that Wings' first season was pretty weak, I liked the later seasons much better (esp. Season 6).

I agree. Seasons 2 through 6 are my favorites. They should have had Antonio from the start, IMHO.

I also didn't really care for the first season of Cheers. Of course, I do prefer the Rebecca years.

Here's what I think:
The Facts Of Life
I Love Lucy (not necessary weak but not near as good as the other seasons)
Happy Days (same as "I Love Lucy")
Mary Tyler Moore (same as "I Love Lucy")

Yes the 1st season of "Wings" was pretty weak.

The 1st season of my "Three's Company" spinoff series "Gabaldi Bound" was really weak compared to the others.
