Default Taxi from ABC to NBC

On Tuesday, September 12, 1978, "Taxi" premiered on ABC. It was a hit at first, but by 1980 the ratings began to slide. The low ratings continued to slide, and so in the spring of 1982, ABC canceled the series. But all was not lost, however, as the series found a new life on NBC. But the ratings for "Taxi" on NBC were no better than they were in its final season on ABC. And so after five years, 114 episodes and two networks, "Taxi" was canceled for good.

I'm a big fan of Taxi, but in a way I'm glad it ended when it did. This way, I can turn to any season and episode and know it's gonna be great. If it had gone on longer, it might of worn out it's welcome.

I'll agree with that statement. Once Jeff Conaway left the show, it did start to lose a little steam.

I've heard several reasons...either he was upset that he didn't have top billing, his agent told him to, or he wanted a singing and theater career. I'm not sure what reason is true.

Whatever the reason, I'm sure we can all agree it was a bad move.

Default Personally, for me . . . .

. . . I started to lose interest BIG TIME in this show when Latka started playing all these alter egos. I don't remember the name of the alter ego, but he was supposed to be Mr. Cool or Mr. Smooth, somthing like that. For me, personally, they should have left Latka alone instead of bringing in this "alter ego." I think that ruined the show.

Signed,
Respectfully,
Dutch
