In an earlier message here on the forum, somebody mentioned that in watching the Nick-At-Night reruns of "Wings", they were surprised to see a show opening, with a theme song playing while the opening credits were being shown. This person said that they never saw this opening when "Wings" was being rerun on USA Network.
Did USA superimpose the opening credits over the short "teaser gag" opening? Or could it be that this "Wings" fan was watching some later "Wings" episodes on USA? I remember that for a while during the 1990's there was a move by all the major networks to get rid of ALL standard openings on all shows. Just about every show went to superimposing the opening credits over the first scene of the show, but this practice was eventually abandoned and many series went back to using a standardized program opening with a theme song. Could someone please fill me in on this "opening credit" situation on "Wings" when it ran on USA? (And just for the record, I LOVE the "Wings" theme song!) |

I think what they did was edit the credits so ALL the episodes had the opening credits over the teaser, like how you mentioned it aired for the later eps on NBC.

According to www.TVTome.com, NBC stopped using the origional theme and started using a "cold" opening halfway through the third season. (It was also the same episode that first credited Antonio as a series regular instead of special guest star.) USA showed the opening theme for the early episodes that had it, but I think it was edited a bit.
