A DIANE SAWYER EXCLUSIVE: THE DIXIE CHICKS SPEAK OUT ON THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING THEIR RECENT COMMENTS ABOUT PRESIDENT BUSH -- AND THE CONTINUING FALL-OUT - NOW ON "PRIMETIME THURSDAY," AIRING APRIL 24 ON ABC
In a candid, exclusive interview, Diane Sawyer talks with the Dixie Chicks -- Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire -- who finally speak out about controversial comments regarding President Bush and the war with Iraq, made last month during a London concert, which resulted in a firestorm of negative publicity. The on-stage remarks, which critics say were unpatriotic, led to a flood of criticism and a backlash that has included a boycott of their music. The interview will air on "Primetime Thursday," THURSDAY, APRIL 24 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. ABCNEWS.com, the 24-hour news service of ABC News and part of the ABC Internet Group, will provide companion programming to Thursday's broadcast. Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson are the co-anchors of "Primetime Thursday." David Doss is the executive producer. (CLOSE CAPTIONED) |

Okay, let me get this straight: If one were to burn the American flag, or diss the country, and say that it should rot in hell, and take a dump on it as a symbolic gesture of vehement contempt, THAT would be unpatriotic, I would imagine. BUT--to express disapproval of your president and say the man cannot chew on pretzels properly, how is that being unpatriotic and disloyal to your country?
In the fall of 2000, a very large percentage of American citizens expressed their disapproval of the man--by voting for Gore or Nader (as well as other lesser-known candidates). Is THAT unpatriotic? Was it not unpatriotic toexpress contempt for Clinton for lying about his dealings with Monica Lewinsky? How was that being disloyal to America? To paraphrase a quote by Mark Twain, patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. |

I really feel sorry for the Dixie Chicks. To get your life threatened because of saying something that you've felt is unconstitutional. It made me sad to see Natalie Maines crying. She said "I'm sorry". How much more does the poor gal have to take?
What is this world coming to if you can't speak your mind? I thought America stood for freedom? I forgive Natalie and the Dixie Chicks and I will buy their CD's. People have said and done far worse!

I wasn't a Dixie Chick fan until I saw their interview last night with Diane Sawyer. I like the fact that they didn't go on tv and beg for people's forgiveness. She acknowledged that what she said was wrong, and apologized. It was obvious to me that there words were sincere, and if people don't accept that, that's there problem, not the Dixie Chicks. Way to go Dixie Chicks, you've gained a new fan!

I just watched what I suppose you could call a 6th grade essay on CNN. The theme was about the "Hollywood types" who have suffered for speaking out. The Dixie Chicks aren't from Hollywood but they were the main chacters in the essay. In my post above this one I told y'all how well their concert tour sales are going. In this bad joke of an essay by CNN they said that ever since the Chicks said they ain't all that danged fond of George, their top of the chart CD has "plummeted". -- Definition of plummet: fall hard and fast -- Their CD has been on the charts for 39 weeks. Last week it was number 1. This week it was number 3. Is that what we could honestly call a plummet? This is a small example of how the media sells stories--not truth. They don't care if you're left in the dark and ignorant. They don't care if you're all riled up about nothing. They only seem to care about what will keep you coming back and supporting their sponsers and, consequently, them. That's why I say you have to be very careful if thinking for yourself means anything to you.
