Default "The Ladies Who Lunch"

NICK showed this episode last night, and it was a GREAT one!

There have been other episodes which are funnier from a "laugh-out-loud" standpoint, but the "Lunch" episode was a very "meaty" episode as far as the Joe-Helen relationship goes.

It showed Gale as a real person instead of the one-dimension "other woman" that she was in previous episodes, and it also showed a proud, gutsy side of Helen.

By the end of the episode Helen COULD have had Joe back, but she refused to take the easy way out and she turned down his attempt at getting back together. It showed a great deal of character and self-respect on her part...

So much for those fans who consider Helen "whiny" and "needy"!

Default And Speaking of Musicals......

Yesterday we discussed Steven Weber's stint in the Broadway musical "The Producers".
After watching last night's "Wings" episode, it struck me that Crystal Bernard (who now has a singing career) would be PERFECT in the lead of a revival of "Annie Get Your Gun"!

She can sing, she has that western drawl and sort of a tomboyish quality about her...but yet can look beautiful when "cleaned up" in pretty clothes...all qualities that would make her a great "Annie Oakley" in that musical.

For that matter, if he could sing (which I don't know if he can), Tim Daly wouldn't make a bad "Frank Butler" (the male lead) in a production of "Annie Get Your Gun" either!

Hmmm....Crystal Bernard and Tim Daly starring together in a production of "Annie Get Your Gun"....Now THAT would be fun to see!

Sorry about that....

I meant to enter that "Annie Get Your Gun" post as a separate "New Topic" message, but I hit the "Reply" prompt instead.

See what happens when I post messages before I've had my morning coffee?

Crystal did play Annie Oakley in ' Annie get your Gun ' ... Ive included in this post a write up on it and a poster ...

Annie Get Your Gun
John Tester
Staff Writer Volume 86 Number 70

The extremely talented cast of Annie Get Your Gun kept audience members laughing throughout the play's premiere Tuesday night in the Civic Auditorium. The entire mood of the evening was lighthearted from beginning to end. Audiences could not help from being enchanted by the cheerful antics and vocal twang of the performers. The entire show was simply a feel-good story.
The intertwined romantic plot offered dramatic relief from the bombardment of comedy throughout the play. However, the ups and downs of the two main characters' affair could hardly bring down the cheery mood. Truly outstanding in this performance was the star, Crystal Bernard (Wings), playing the role of gunslinger Annie Oakley. From the moment she walked (or more appropriately, plodded) across the stage, the audience fell in love with her and showed it with enthusiastic applause. Bernard's character underwent the rags-to-riches scenario, a classic crowd pleaser. Oakley was portrayed as a character constantly struggling with her strong nature in a male-dominated world. She must compete against her male show-biz rival/partner yet still remain feminine in order to win his heart. This paradox does not necessarily set inspiring goals for maturing females, but, if viewed solely for entertainment purposes, Bernard's character is a true delight. Overall, Jennifer Whitson, marketing director for AC Entertainment, said the Knoxville tour stop of Annie Get Your Gun was a huge success with over 1,500 attending Tuesday's performance and close to 2,000 tickets sold for Wednesday's and tonight's performances. The show was great. Though the house was not packed the energy was incredible. You could see the cast feeding off of it, Whitson said. Annie Get Your Gun is one of the theatrical productions in AC Entertainment's Best of Broadway series. Whitson said that she believed the performance was an integral part of the series. It was a perfect fit. It offered a great balance of fun, history and talent, Whitson said.

Default Crystal As "Annie Oakley"

WOW! Many thanks for that write-up and poster scan....I guess that I'm getting pretty good at this "dream casting" thing!
I would have loved to have seen Crystal in that musical....As I said earlier, it just seemed like such a natural fit!

and as far as Tim starring in it ... I would have to say if Tom Wopat (Luke Duke from the Dukes of Hazard) can do it, hell it would be a piece of cake for Tim ... lol

but on a more up note Tyne Daly (Tims Sister) did get to star in it ...

I love the meat-slapping scene. It's one of my favorites
