These appear on most of the "WINGS" episodes, but not all of them (at least not all of the "Nick At Nite" reruns)....
Those short "gag" routines that are shown before the opening credits, and they usually have nothing to do with the story that is to follow. Some of those short "teaser" bits are a bit on the staged, corny "old joke" side, but the other night I saw one that was HILARIOUS.... It was the one where several male passengers were seated on the plane, waiting for it to take off. There's nobody sitting in the pilot's seat, and one of the passengers complains, "Where is that stupid pilot?". Suddenly Brian (who has been sitting with the passengers and pretending to be one of them) jumps out of his seat, jumps in the pilot's seat and says something like, "I'm sick of waiting, I'm gonna fly this thing myself!". As Brian's revving up the plane's engines, the passengers look shocked, and one of them asks, "Do you have a pilot's license?" and Brian (with this spacey, drugged-out expression on his face) says, "No, but they took my driver's license away and I still drive!". That was a very funny Steven Weber bit, and that scene had me howling with laughter before the opening credits even started! |

I love that scene!
Another favorite of mine is when Joe, Brian, Antonio, and Lowell are in Sandpiper's office and they're bored because the airport was shut down due to heavy fog. Lowell is sanding the door, Joe is plucking at a guitar, Antonio is hitting his coffee cup with a spoon, and Brian starts singing a bit. They had their own little band there. I think "The Airport Boyz" would make a great name for a rock band. |

Usually I think those opening gags are pretty lame, but the one where Brian pretended he was a passenger was hilarious!!! Brian is SO funny.
