did it end so soon? (besides the real reason) it seems like it could of gone on for like 6 or 7 seasons.it was funny had a good theme.i just don't get it.

The network (CBS) just didn't "get" Gilligan's Island and didn't understand why it was so popular with its audience. And the critics just blasted it. All during GI's run, the network executives kept trying to interfere with Sherwood Schwartz's running of the show. The show was all set for a fourth season (the network had even told them they would be back), but when William Paley, head of the network, came back from vacation, he was furious that Gunsmoke had been canceled. He demanded that Gunsmoke be renewed (it was his and his wife's favorite show). Guess who got canceled to make room for Gunsmoke?

Gilligins Island has potential. It could of lasted at least 6 seasons. Darn CBS...
