Thumbs down no singles allowed

There is a movement in my town towards a "family only" rule. Some parents are trying to get local businesses ( shops, shopping centers, restaurants, bowling alley, theatres, ect..) to set aside time were only families or adults with child can come in.
and not allow those who are single.
I call it the "jeepers" rule since they have such a rule they enforce that bans single people ( those without kids ) from coming in. Jeepers being the name of a chain of indoor amusement parks.

While my town doesnt have a Jeepers we do have a place just like it and they too have the same rule. But some parents want more. They want the Pizza Hut across the street. the Food Lion 2 blocks away, Ruby Tuesday, JC Penney, and Target to follow suit and have the hours 5pm-8pm reserved for them. As an example they pointed out about a waterpark near Atlanta that has a "family night". After 3pm those without kids are asked to leave.
They never did say the name of this place, so I wonder if some of these parents are making this up.

The purpose they say is to provide a "safe haven" for parents. In other words , time for parents to shop if they want to bring their kids along and dont have to worry about perverts, weirdos, out of control teens, ect...

I have heard of malls that wont allow teens inside in the evening hours.

I dont agree with this. I feel that anybody should shop/eat/ have fun anywhere they want. As far as safety goes, the parents should keep their eye on thier kids and keep them in control. If they cant do that then they should get a babysitter or better yet, not have children in the first place.

I agree. That rule is totally wrong, discriminatory, and sounds very unconstitutional too. I hope people protest and fight it.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a "No Kids" time applied to some places like movie theaters and fancy restaurants, but I know that won't happen. I guess I shouldn't blame the kids for their bad behavior though. It's the parents who can't, or won't, control them who are to blame.

That's not right. I'm single. So if they did that then I would never get to go anywhere.

Can't that be against the law? I mean, when you said parents are looking for a 'safe haven'... well, not ALL single people are the ones who molest, kidnap and mistreat children. I mean sure, the chance of a married individual doing that are a little less, but there are still perverts out there who WILL do that, regardless of if they have a family or not.

I think that "law" should be demolished, immediately.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why not go back to separate water fountains?? One for singels, one for marrieds. Sometimes this country just sucks.

That rule is stupid in my opinion. If I owned a store or restaurant, I wouldn't care who came in there as long as they behaved themselves and had money to spend. I agree with Jenny about the no kids rule. I hate spending my hard earned money to go into a movie theatre only to hear crying, whining children. There is a theatre near my house that doesn't permit children after 9pm and I think that's a good rule.

That is the sh*ttiest and most absurd rule I have ever heard!! I don't wanna be discriminated against just cos I'm single. Not all single people are pervs or wierdo's! That rule is just bloody ridiculous! I doubt it'll be well-enforced cos there are a hell of a lot of single people who won't put up with that.
If anything, I'd want to see a 'No Families' policy in place in shops and restaurants. Just for once it'd be nice to go out for lunch without having to put up with babies screaming and kids running round and round your table, chucking food everywhere!

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Although it may attract more families, the business enforcing this rule will LOSE business. Some of the places (ie: pizza hut) are the 'teen hangouts'. I think it's a ridiculous rule. I bet the yuppies that thought up this rule will be complaining in 10 years, when their kids are 15 that their kids have to go out soo late and that the family rule is inconvinient. tsk tsk. I'm glad there are no rules like that around here, although we do have a town curfew.

That's very discriminatory and just plain ********. It sounds to me like they're saying that single people are ALWAYS kidnappers and serial killers and God knows what else, and that definitely isn't true. We have as much of a right to hang around somewhere as anyone else.

I can see having a "Families Only" night once a month at a restaurant or movie theater or something. The local movie theater in my town used to have "Family Day" the first Saturday of each month where they showed all family-friendly movies and tickets were half-price and kids got a free drink and box of popcorn. The place closed down a few years ago. Every week or every day is just wrong though, and I think a lot of places would lose business. I know I'd refuse to patronize a place that refused to let me enter at certain times because I don't have children.

Doesn't the pizza chain Chuckie Cheese have such a policy?

I seem to think it does, went there with my cousin several years ago near Pittsburgh. Her 2 little girls always wanted to go and there is no such chain around my town. I believe they had a rule that the only those with children can enter. Kept thinking to myself, maybe their intentions are good, to protect the kids BUT...this is discrimation!! And its doesnt allways work, many of men ( and women too ) have molested children and a lot of them are married with kids off their own. Just becuase they dont touch their kids doesnt always mean they wont touch yours.

The idea of family time at local stores and such will NEVER happen.
With so many businesses struggling like Sears, JC Penney, K-Mart even McDonalds ( every week many of the places go on and on about how bad sales are, losing money ), does one really believe they will kick out paying customers to please a few? I dont think so !!
