I use either Sony or RCA. I have no problem with the quality of RCA tapes, I've never had problems with them but I found out that I'm not the only one who can't get the tapes back into the boxes after they have been removed. That is very frustrating and i've stopped using RCA tapes for now. This only happens with the white RCA boxes, not the black ones.

I also use Sony a lot. If I'm using an 8 hour tape I use TDK.

I won't use Polaroid, I do not like them at all, and I wont use LDK (Cheapo!!!!!). I used to use Scotch and LOVED them, I still have some old Days of Our Lives tapes on SCOTCH and they have lasted for 15 years! I also like Fuji and Kodak but they aren't around much if at all anymore.

Sony works for me.

Cool

Are those old scotch tapes in the black box? Did you notice that in sp they are about 2 h and 15 - 20 minutes? Those are so dang good tapes. I use them for overlength movies, like die hard. Ive got a ton of them to recycle, but the stickers dont come off for anything!

Yes and the black box isn't paper it's some sort of plasticy type material. They weren't cheap tapes, I remember buying 1 at a time at the store when I was 14 taping Days of Our Lives for like $4.00 a tape. I could never do that today. But they were GREAT tapes.

I dont recycle tapes. I never never tape over anything and I alwys use new tapes to tape my own stuff and for my trades.

Do you mean you just tape over stuff for your own tapes?

Yeah, i tape over stuff for my own tapes. Since i record in sp usually, and leave a big buffer of space and use temporary labels, it doesnt bother me.
Although, it's very rare for me to use tapes at all, i collect my stuff on vcd and only tape stuff thats too long for cds, or i tape stuff temporarily and put it on cd later.

I very rarely trade, but of course i use new tapes that i believe are good quality (and have a pretty box) Usually jvc red. <G>
Red kicks hiney.

If you have a BJ's Wholesale near you..you can buy Fuji T-120's in 12 packs there for $10.99..they also sell combo packs with T-120's and T-160's

I generally go back and forth between Sony and Fuji

However I am doing the majority of recording on my Panasonic DVD recorder now..I love the TIVO like feature with the 40gb hard drive

Here is a link for more info on it..
http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_el...er.asp#builtin

I have to say is that it is really easy to use, takes a hell of alot less time than doing it with a computer and I am slowly converting all my tapes to DVD

Out of the 250 DVD's that I have recorded with it..I have only had 6 coasters..but I think that it was due to the brand of media I chose as opposed to the actual machine

The 8 hr tapes are nice cuz you can fit more on them. I forget what brand they are but I think Walmart has them...

True but don't forget that 8 hour tapes are thinner to fit the extra tape, meaning they're more likely to break from years of rewinding and fast forwarding, especially if you record in EP/SLP on those tapes. There was this video trading site I saw once that reccomended the best brands of tapes from experience and from my own exoerience I'd have to agree. TDK Extra High Grade are the best with JVC not far behind, the high performance ones (red boxes) and extra high grade brand (blue boxes). I usually see the JVCs in a 3 pack, with 2 reds and one blue. I've also used Sony and Fuji. On SP, they have minimal picture grain and good sound.

Yeah...talked about before...Sony, Fuji, TDK, Maxell, all of the above...I'd have to say my favorite is TDK right now. I recently taped a sporting event in SP mode on a TDK Revue 8-hour tape and it is absolutely crystal clear - like watching the original broadcast. I really love the old "heavy" brands - GoldStar, Scotch, etc...everything was made better back in the day...

Also Anthony, what you said about TDK Extra High Grade being the best, I have to disagree. I've used several of them and all have had bad dropout/scratchy parts. One was even bad enough to totally snow out the whole screen and interupt an episode of Kate & Allie. I've used pretty much every brand of tape out there, including LDK, and I've never had that problem - which is surprising considering TDK E-HG is one of the more expensive brands. TDK wasn't much help when I contacted them about it either. I would have had to send the tape to them for a replacement that I didn't want. I won't use E-HG anymore - buy Revue or Vivid. But, if you ever come across TDK Super High Grade, which is a discontinued line - get it! The tapes are awesome, crystal clear in EP mode and come in a nice plastic archive case. I bought it new sealed from a lady on eBay and it was worth the $5 along with a Scotch HG 8-hour (both sealed - a tapers dream!)

Actually, I used to use Vivid all the time but I don't see it sold around here anymore. If I did, I'd definitely use them. My EHGs seems to look better, but you're right, I sometimes have had minor problems but only occasionally because I have a satellite dish and only tape on SP now.
