Every season, Leave it to Beaver had a different opening title sequence. Which one was your favorite? My favorite was from the first season, where the credits were drawn in wet cement. That was very original for any TV series of that era.

The season where Ward and June come into the bedroom and wake the boys up.

I like all of the early ones, like the ones mentioned above, but I kind of like the one that's on now with the boys coming downstairs and Beav puts his cap on right in time with the music. I like that a lot. I don't like the last two seasons as much, the iced tea and the jazzy music where they all look extremely uncomfortable running into the car.

I think seasons 2 and 3 get an A, because they are the ones that look really 'normal' for the Cleavers and the little scenes are acted naturally and well.
I give a B+ to season 1 and the cement. It seems nice and somewhat creative, but it's not really a model of anything, in spite of a couple of street signs, nor is it simply a pad for writing their names in, as it appears to be sectioned, with one or 2 other impressions in it. A B- goes to season 4, where Ward and June hand the boys their lunches and jackets as they go out the front door. This is relatively 'normal' like seasons 2 and 3 until Beaver puts his face right into the camera and stops and stares to end the scene. Finally a C goes to seasons 5 and 6. In #5, I don't think even June C. would carry out a big glass pitcher with breakable glasses on a tray for Ward and the boys, who should be dirty and sweaty from yardwork; and the door closes behind her when both her hands are in use. In #6, all the action seems too forced; they come out of the house one at a time, on cue, and June looks into the camera for a second; Beaver is the last one out (if he locked the door it was only by twisting the knob inside, which would make it an easy lock to loid open), and then all of them look back as the car goes into reverse, with obviously no back glass in place. |

I say the one where they come down the stairs, was the best. The letters even seem to be the best!
Season 1 is my 2nd favorite, I love the cement. The first season in the new house is also pretty good. The one with yard work and June serving drinks is just OK--it could have been a little more natural. And the smile when Beaver looks back in the 6th season seems too little-boyish.... But the love for the show overrides all concerns with the beginnings LITB is great, any way you start it!
