I love "The Adventures of Superman" from the 50s. I've loved it since I watched it as a kid in the 60s. It's kind of funny, because it was very primitive, and the writing was in some ways naive by today's standards, but it has always seemed to have this chemistry that makes me feel good. I showed it to my girlfriend, who's younger and had never seen it before, and she said, "That is so much better than the movies I can't believe it." Anybody else remember and like it? It would be so great if there could be a board for it here. There is a board at yesterdayland.com that seems to do a good business, but I spend so much time here, that it would be great if it could be added to this board.

I love the show. George Reeves was wonderful as Superman. It really takes a gifted actor to make such fantasy elements seem believeable, without making himself come off as a ham. Reeves pulled it off. I wish that TV Land would put it on at a more decent hour. As for a board, I would love it - I'm glad that there's someone else on here who seems to enjoy "The Adventures of Superman" as much as I do. Do you have a favorite episode? Anyway, I thought that you might be interested that a movie about the life (and mysterious death), of George Reeves will be released next year. The title of the film is "Truth, Justice, and The American Way." Hugh Jackman (Wolverine, of the "X-men" motion pictures), will be playing Reeves. I thought that a fellow fan of "The Adventures of Superman" might want to know about it.

Favorite episode....Well, I'd have to do a lot of thinking to figure out my #1 episode, but one that comes to mind is the one where the little girl who lost her sight in a car accident wins the contest to have Superman fly her around the world, and he can see the fragments of glass in her eyes, and guides the surgeons in restoring her sight. I also liked the one where some diplomats from the Middle East get the idea that Lois Lane is the reincarnation of one of their great historical queens, and seal her and Jimmy Olsen up in a tomb, thinking that she'll regain her memory and powers and let herself out. |

Sure, I like The Adventures of Superman. The introduction is perfection! Have you ever noticed, I mean really noticed how perfect the inflections of the announcer, along with the music and the film, come together to create one of the greatest introductions to a TV show, ever?!

I used to watch this show alot when I was a kid. Recently I've been watch the color and black & white episodes and have come to like the b&w better. The color episodes seem kind of cartoonish. Question?
He wore his costume under his clothes, where were the boots?

I love the show too. I managed to find one tape of it from the store. I really loved seeing it again. (I don't get cable.) It was my favorite version of Superman ever. It was so sad to hear when he died. I kind of remember the episode where he flew the girl around the world. I also remember the one where he was going to marry Lois Lane. Some thugs were plotting something, and one posing as a hairdresser talked Lois into having him fly to the Alps to get her some Edelweiss. He somehow managed to do that and still catch the crooks.
I can't answer the question about the boots. Funny, I never thought about that. |

I loved it also, and watched every episode.
One thing that I thought was funny tho, was when someone was shooting at Superman, he would always put his hands on his hips, and smile at the shooter. Then, when the shooter was out of ammo, and would throw the gun at Supermsn, Superman would always duck. Really wish someone would bring the series back on DVD. |

Absolutely, I love the original Superman show...
I grew up in the 60s/70s and grew up watching this show...Although I liked the first 2 Superman movies that came out in the late 70s, to me, there's nothing like watching the original series. As far as my favorite episodes, there are probably a few I've forgotten, but a couple that come to mind are the eps where the crook sealed himself inside a cube for 7 years, so he could be declared legally dead, and Superman couldn't crash through the cube because it was too hard even for him... I also like the ep where Jimmy invents an anti-gravity fluid...and the one where Prof Perriwinkle invents a machine that makes people think they're upside down... These 3 eps were all in color, and although the B&W eps might have been less cartoonish, I still prefer the color episodes for the sheer campiness of it all... And George Reeves did do a fantastic job of playing Superman/Clark... I also felt very sad when I heard what happened to him...but although he's no longer with us, he did make being a kid just a little bit more fun... |

You can never, ever replace the original because George Reeves really was the one who made the character huge and popular!! Always had, always has, and always will. Sadly, people couldn't accept him playing another character since people will always familiarize that character with him that he took it to his grave when he was a has-been, out of work actor.
