Default know what is a pain...

when ur 16 and have a parent buyin u the tickets, but they wont let you to see an R movie?

such a toolish act, I went to see Phone Booth tonight with some of my friends, and my friends dad went in to get the tickets but they wouldnt sell them to us because we didnt have any photo ID..but im turning 17 in 3 months and 4 days, and they wouldnt sell us tickets..I mean eventually we found ways to get in, but I mean its a little ridiculous, if parents try and buy the tickets and they wont even let you get in...think bout it people can drive, but they cant see R rated movies...a little screwy

Talking A

Apart from extreme cases, movie classifyings aren't really needed when you hit 10. Ok, an 8 year old maybe shouldn't see Titanic, but a 12 year old should be allowed to see most of what an 18 year old can see at a cinema. Waking Life was given 15, first it's a cartoon and there's movies with way more violence in it, Waking lIFE has just one scene with lots of cursing, and a guy sets himself on fire (who hasn't seen that on tom and jerry). Anyway- 12 year olds, 18 year olds , doesn't matter, cos when it comes down to it, the films all will be eventually broadcast on tv, where there's no cinema operator to kick you out. Besides, it's easy to turn on the tv and watch sex in the city, no matter what age you are, so no one should be denied the right to see a film, just cos you're like 3 months too young. They must think it's like once you turn 18, on your birthday a switch hits, and you act more mature, I know tonnes of older people who don't act like it.

it doesnt matter if 12 year olds buy tickets to a pg13 movie, but it matters if a 16 year old buys them for an R rated movie...so messed up

Well I don't know. I admit that there are alot of rated R movies that are pretty tame, and probably should be seen by younger viewers. Iv'e actually seen some rated R films that were tamer then PG-13 films. On the other hand though I believe some rated R movies are so vulgar and disgusting that they shouldn't be seen by anybody, much less a 16 year old. I just think these movie studios need to do a better job of rating films. Some of their ratings are absolutely ridiculous!

Ditto. I've been able to get into R-rated films as long as I'm accompanied by someone of 18 years or older. I've never run into any problems.

One of my friends works at the local cinema, so we just go on a night he's working.

Angry re: underage

Some of that stuff is so messed up about having to show ID when you're pretty much old enough to watch it, but...I might have mentioned before when I went to see The Cell with J-Lo in it, and some several black kids were waiting at the box office to see it, but weren't let in because they were too young (TOO young...). And they asked me if I could be their "parent", and I was thinking something was up...and the clerk told me they couldn't go in without a parent, which I figured was the case, but I wasn't going to accept responsibility for these kids to go in just to see Puff Daddy's bitch--er, girlfriend. So I went in, and soon, I saw those kids in with a "parent" who fit more of the description of a parent (of color)...but when I saw that movie, there were some VERY freaky surreal scenes of violence that NO responsible parent or adult should have allowed kids to watch. It was just too gruesome for kids. I was so irritated that parents could lack discretion with kids at the movies.

This used to really bug me when I was a kid. I was so annoyed, I once wrote my congressman about it when I was very young. I asked him why I was being discriminated against. He sent back a polite reply, but he was pretty much an apologist for the Establishment.
