Default I really don't think Sondra was needed!!

She was hardly on the Cosbys that much and the only kids alot of us remember much really is Denise,Theo,Vanessa & Rudy.I don't know... I just found Sondra's character very boring & useless for the show. Also I hated it in the later seasons when she hooked up with Elvin. If she was going to be a Cosby kid.... I would have liked for them not to have brought up Elvin, but somehow finds her way back living at the Cosby house to annoy Cliff & Claire with her problems. I think they should have just stuck with the 4 kids like they intended to.

Yeah i really didn't care much for Sondra either. I think the Sondra and Elvin characters and grandparents were seen too much.

i'm actually gonna disagree, i believe their parts were very important to the show. In a way Sondra's part showed the fruits of Claire and Cliff's hard work at raising a child.
The fact that she was the only child that was relatively focused(except for when she wasn't sure about law school) and pretty straight forward as a child. She was also very smart which they never really played off of with any other kid.SUre Vanessa had a 1400 or sumthin like that on her SAT and it was thought she was smart, they never talked about it much. But with sondra it was evident in everything she did, so the aspect of their child being so smart but still dealing with problems that claire and cliff had to deal with was important.
As for with Elvin, he was just an add on which showed the family's venture outside of the house. Which i still believe was important to some point.

Default SONDRA ROCKS

i still believe sondra's part was very important to the show, i',m not too sure about the ratings hike theory, since i believe the only time they needed a ratings hike was when olivia entered the picture, that's because all the kids were older by then and let's face it, cliff's(and bill cosby) best stuff came with working with little kids.but back to sondra, her part was very important and influential.

Absolutely! People are always putting down this character and I hate that. Adding Elving helped to complete her character which introduced us to some very funny moments on the show. Besides, Cliff would play off of Sonda's intellect during the seasons two and three of the series. One episode shw was talking about how men go through change after they reach a certain age and mentin something about them being closer to death. There would be a pause and then laughter from the audience and Cliff would come in with a line like, "you know, Sondra, you should get a job writing greeting cards". I always got a kick out of that.

Yeah, that's a good example right there. If she would have just remained that way and not married Elf... er... ELVIN, I would not have just rated her the most annoying girl. I still don't think she was the coolest cat on the block, but she definitely lost her marbles when she got married. He brought the girl down.
